    Laphroaig Oak Select

For the Laphroaig Oak Select, the Islay distillery has taken whisky from a number of different types of cask, including oloroso sherry butts, white American oak, Pedro Ximenez seasoned hoggies, quarter casks, and first-fill bourbon casks. Quite a selection, wouldn't you say? A laid-back addition to the Laphroaig core range of single malts.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Classic, medicinal peat notes up front, supported by citrus-y, chocolate-y sweet notes and soft barley.

    Palate

The peat is there, but it's taking it easy and letting the bright notes of lemon, green apples and mint stand out. Darker baking spice notes develop further on.

    Finish

Medium length, peat remaining in sight until it's over.

    Overall

It doesn't pack a huge punch of peat, which might be just the ticket for introducing someone to the wonders of Islay's smoky expressions.

Worth the £23 for this none aged statement Islay

On the nose medicinal notes with obvious peat . Stewed baked apples and oily texture on the palate . On the finish sea and maritime notes which linger pleasently.

COmplex Flavor - Tastes Good to Me

Honestly, the only other Scotch I've ever tasted is the Glenlivet 14, which I found to be too bland and burning. By contrast, this is much more drinkable, with a very smokey, earthy, leather aroma and taste. So my 5-star review is only based on two bottles. For all I know, this could be terrible compared to most other bottles, but I'm enjoying it as a nice alternative to my favorite Bourbon sand Rum.

    Just say no!

The worst thing that Laphroaig have ever done. I love Laphroaig and tried now than my fair share of their wider range, bit I wouldn't have another bottle of this if they were giving it away.
