Created by Distillery Manager John Campbell, Laphroaig Lore is said to be the richest ever Laphroaig! Named after the skills passed down over the generations, this permanent addition to the range is matured in a combination of casks including first fill Sherry butts and quarter casks and is said to contain some of their "most precious stock".
Very similar to Lagavulin 16, but more peat coming through. Nose: sea salt, peat, compost and sweetness. Palate: sweet, almost honey-like, slight citrus, choc and smoke. Finish: long, sweet and smoky. Real gentleman's drink. Adding 4-5 drops of water really opens it up. Fantastic.
Lore is indeed a lovely, rich single malt. Great mouth feel, nice sweetness to counter the peat smoke - great whisky IMHO!
Slightly too sweet + rich on the palate for my liking. Perhaps I have more of a savoury palate. I much rather prefer the 10 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish in the same price point.
first ever peaty whisky in this price range i have tasted, i must say even though i mostly drink none-peated whiskeys this is just amazing... Happy i got this one home!
probably my favourite Islay so far.
