Created by Distillery Manager John Campbell, Laphroaig Lore is said to be the richest ever Laphroaig! Named after the skills passed down over the generations, this permanent addition to the range is matured in a combination of casks including first fill Sherry butts and quarter casks and is said to contain some of their "most precious stock".
£4.76 - £33.99
Laphroaig is my favourite malt whisky, but the sherrying here is a big mistake and completely confuses and destroys the unique characteristics of the original whisky - seems like a half-baked attempt to create Lagavulin from Laphroaig! I'm horrified to read that it is 'said to contain some of [Laphroaig's] "most precious stock" ... '! What a waste :-( Please get back to what you do best.
Since my name is Lore, I'd like to thank you for naming MY Scotch..................... Now, where's my free sample?
We got this at £14 discount, and loved it. My partner is more of a Lagavullin person, but really liked Laphroaig Lore. For myself, I do not enjoy strongly peaty whiskies generally, but this one hit the right spot, because the flavour dominates the smokiness. A definite success.
Peat and smoke but not over the top. Spicy up front...lots going on almost hot at times. Expecting a burn later but nothing...replaced by smooth complexity. What a great whiskey...will definitely buy again.
I had a 3cl sample within my Whiskey advent calendar. It went down beautifully ! So much in fact that I came online immediately order a full bottle. Even at near 50% no water required. My usual ‘go to’ whisky for context f my taste - Lagavulin 16. Ardbeg Uigeadail. Bruichladdich Port Charlotte heavily peated.
