    Laphroaig Lore

Created by Distillery Manager John Campbell, Laphroaig Lore is said to be the richest ever Laphroaig! Named after the skills passed down over the generations, this permanent addition to the range is matured in a combination of casks including first fill Sherry butts and quarter casks and is said to contain some of their "most precious stock".

    Confused...

As an Islay fan i should rejoice loudly, but... It is somehow sharp-angled and not so well balanced (too much burnt wood) to my taste. Luckily there is Laphroaig Quarter Cask.

    why?

Watered down weak young peated whisky...Why would people buy this at 2x the price of the 10yo. Can someone please explain this to me

Like Lagavulin 16 or Laphroaig 15? Try this.

Well, Im comparing Lore immediately following a bottle of their 15-year old and as a regular Lagavulin 16 drinker; pick up a bottle of Lore if either the Laphroaig 15 or Lagavulin 16 appeals to you. It's an exquisite smoke and peat fest; complex, smooth, super smokey, with a great finish and aftertaste.

An eye opener and a palate pleaser

This is wonderful. I usually drink 10 yr old or the Quarter Cask, even the Lagavulin 16, but this is arguably the best whisky I've ever tasted. Smoother on the tongue than either of the other two Laphroaig mentioned, but still knows it's name and is nice and peaty on the palate.

    Three Stars (such a shame)

I have a theory regarding this Lore bottling. There’s people who have tried Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength and those who have not. Those who have not may think this is a good Islay and worthy of 4/5 stars. For those who have tried the 10 year cask strength, they will be aware of how poor this version is. Dare I say, half hearted effort from this majestic distillery. It completely lacks the wow factor and is rather dull. Do yourself a favour, avoid. I honestly believe the Quarter Cask is better than this at half the cost. If you disagree with me, try the 10 year cask strength as a marker for what this distillery is capable of and then try this. Three stars is the most I could give.
