The first in a new series from Laphroaig, The Archive Collection is all about highly limited, generously aged single malts from the legendary Islay distillery. This 36-year-old single malt kicks off the series in style, housed in custom-made hand-blown glass bottles that are inspired by the sea glass found on Islay's beaches. Initially matured in bourbon barrels, the whisky was then treated to a rest in second-fill oloroso casks, imparting subtle sweetness and spice to the classic coastal peat at its core. A release of 400 cask strength bottles.
Honey sweet with hints of white peach and mango, followed by creamy dark toffee, vanilla and cedar wood, then subtle oil of wintergreen and notes of singed sage and liquorice root.
Zesty and sweet with orange and tropical fruit, mouth coating initially then moving to mouth drying.
Warm and lingering to finish which brings out the peat in the mouth and the salt on the lips.
