Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength - Batch 015

The latest batch of Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength demonstrates that the Islay distillery is in no danger of running out of peaty powerhouses for us to enjoy. This has all the smoky, medicinal, and sweet notes you've come to expect, and at a hearty cask strength, those flavours don't exactly hide.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Thick waves of iodine peat smoke followed by candied fruit and toffee.

    Palate

Rich, earthy, and spicy heaps of clove, cardamom, and chilli. Then, salted caramel, blackcurrant, and a hint of liquorice.

    Finish

    Huge and drying.

If you like Laphroaig, you won’t be disappointed

Really nice whisky, and, remarkably, quite drinkable neat. I’m not normally able to get listed tasting notes, but I absolutely got marshmellows and waffles on this one. That makes it sound really sweet, but it’s not. It’s just great.

    To the confused Costco shopper

    > Can buy it àt Costco when it's on offer for £25 Not the cask strength release, smart arse.

    Incredible Dram

Nose - Smells like damp earth and grains, a burning campfire, sweet oak, and cured pork. Palate - Sweet honey coated wood, see salt, black peppers, lemonade, dried tobacco leaves and vegetation. Finish - Smoked brisket, sea salt, iodine, milk chocolate and bread. Very long finish. Incredibly smooth in the mouth considering the high ABV. Very memorable dram which truly captures the "spirit" of the Distillery.

    Higher level

This stuff is the dogs. I have drunk many high end whiskies and you cannot get a better scotch for the money. Mr Costco, not sure what you are buying, but it ain't this. This is five star (not the group) all the way. The one thing that doesn't appear to get mentioned is that there is quite clearly a fair few shery casks in the mix. I love peat and sherry. Lovely touches of leather on the finish and oddly i get a taste of cabbage on the lingering finish. happily drink at full strength. I don't think this would be any better at twice the age. I have no idea how many bottles are produced, but this is the type of release that should be gone as quick as the cask strength Springbanks. Maybe there are 100,000 bottles? Who knows. I have two bottles and I will get another two to keep for a collection of the batches. Colin G
