Released in 2004, this bottling was aged for around five years before being finished in a quarter cask for several months, the size of the cask is quite small, thus does not require such a long maturation. This remains a truly great achievement from Laphroaig.
Oily and buttery nose, with toffee, nuttiness, hickory, bicarbonate of soda, rum and raisin ice cream and zest.
Big rush of sweetness, in fact it’s an explosion of sweetness, with fiery chilli heat, TCP, sweet cereals and a touch of cola syrup.
Medium-length, but becomes fruity, with custard and cigar smoke.

Tastes like a very young 10 year laphroaig with a heavy oak influence. Not much depth to it. The oak is overpowering which is probably to compensate for the age being so young. I would not buy this again. For the price the regular 10 is better and for a few more dollars the 10 cask strength is miles ahead of this. Or better yet just get ardbeg
Tastes amazing. Perfect for those moments when you just want to relax and journey through some complex flavors. Sweet, salty, fruity and smoky. Although not the cheapest whisky on the market it certainly doesn’t break the bank either and therefore represents a great value whisky imho. Cheers!
I keep trying to go back to this but nothing. I love the 10 year and expected this to be better. Lacks depth, harsh high alcohol taste, add a few drops of water and it leaves you nothing but the pure alcohol taste. This will sit at the back of my cabinet for many years to come with the crappy Aberfeldy 12 year I brought. If you love the heavy peaty, smokey taste expected from a Laphroaig then this will disappoint. Buy a 10 year or move on to something else.
On the nose- pine needles, cask. Mildly cresylic, unlike the in-your-face band-aid aromas of the 10. On the palate is peat, malt, and dry leather- distinctively Laphroaig. A long, full finish, and leathery. Plenty of lingering smoke. After a few drops of mineral water, more pronounced cereal notes coupked with smoke and oak. Let sit a bit and you’ll get vanilla notes wafting out.
Big fan of the 10 yr old, but this is well...put it like this: if you add water the whole thing falls apart. I suppose its fine with a splash, but add a bit more and it unravels before your taste buds in a way the 10 year old simply does not (and other malts I like do not). Not my favourite.
