Released in 2004, this bottling was aged for around five years before being finished in a quarter cask for several months, the size of the cask is quite small, thus does not require such a long maturation. This remains a truly great achievement from Laphroaig.
Oily and buttery nose, with toffee, nuttiness, hickory, bicarbonate of soda, rum and raisin ice cream and zest.
Big rush of sweetness, in fact it’s an explosion of sweetness, with fiery chilli heat, TCP, sweet cereals and a touch of cola syrup.
Medium-length, but becomes fruity, with custard and cigar smoke.

Colour - yellow golden, Coatline - thin fairly long lasting indicating presence of fatty oils Legs - thin and fast running indicating high alcohol, but young whisky. Nose - oily, peaty, sweet, buttery. Changes further down the glass, oil becoming more prominent. Palate - oily, smokey, syrup, chilli, sometimes briny salty medicinal Finish - medium length, bonfire, smoke remains long. Oil disappears quickly. Medicinal Conclusion - nice peated whisky. A bit too oily imo
Beautiful taste , exactly what I was hoping for when purchasing this bottle , the smokey flavouring , not much burn but some heat as it goes down. Leaves a rich taste in your mouth for a while after consuming the quarter cast. Very much enjoyed this bottle , will be buying again
Deliciously sweet burst, followed by smokey, syrupy, spicy, awesomeness.
If you like intense smoky whisky rich in taste that will punch you straight in the face with every sip this is the whisky for you. All of you who give this piece of art 1-2 stars and say it taste like rocket fuel (like my old man does) thats just not the whisky for you. Its like eating spicy food and say it burned my tongue. Its either you like it or not. Anyway this is one of my favorites.
For $70 it really deserves an "11". If you want bold, smoky, old man Islay Single Malt, then this is an absolute must have. Laphroaig QC is not only a preposterously enjoyable peated Whisky, but also an intelligent and sharp-tongued satire of contemporary Scotch. It represents a refinement of everything that other distilleries try to do but sometimes fail. It’s technically more accomplished in every conceivable way, but it’s also tremendously ambitious in its own right. No other Whisky comes close to this in boldness, smokiness and richness of flavour, and there is sharp intelligence behind its sense of humour and gift for mayhem. It tells a compelling, unpredictable, and provocative story without ever letting it get in the way of your own self-directed adventures through Islay. It is one of the very best Scotches ever made.
