1,000s of drams in stock
Released in 2004, this bottling was aged for around five years before being finished in a quarter cask for several months, the size of the cask is quite small, thus does not require such a long maturation. This remains a truly great achievement from Laphroaig.
Nose: Oily and buttery nose, with toffee, nuttiness, hickory, bicarbonate of soda, rum and raisin ice cream and zest.
Palate: Big rush of sweetness, in fact it’s an explosion of sweetness, with fiery chilli heat, TCP, sweet cereals and a touch of cola syrup.
Finish: Medium-length, but becomes fruity, with custard and cigar smoke.

I am a long time fan of the 10 yr Laphroaig, particularly for the iodine and salty peat. There is less of that in the quarter cask. It is less aggressive and less complex but none the worse for it. It opens with much more sweetness than the 10yr. Rum hints and warmth with some fruit. Quite a burn from the alcohol, possibly due to its youth. Beautiful smoke on the finish with wood and sea salt. Quite different from the 10yr but also excellent. Will buy again soon.

Big fan of this one. I am a big bourbon fan, and i recently got into scotch, i don't like scotch with no smoke in it, the smokier the scotch the better it tastes to me and this is a prime example of a damn good smokey scotch

First hit is butter/spice/licorice up front, then goes crisp and fruity, with a hint of peat that lingers nice and long. Not as smoky as other selections from Laphroaig though. Which is what I think of when I hear “Laphroaig”. Nice complex drink. Many layers to this one.

Let me summarize: - Amazing value at 48%- Complex and rich, great burn - an acquired taste- Initial flavors are huge licorice/aniseed followed quickly by, sweet peaty fresh apple and fruit - Smoke is actually a little understated, mostly on the finish, I need more smoke...- Less medicinal than the 10yr version, which I also love. I could always do with more iodine and sea salt- If you are a whisky novice, don't try it or you'll be wasting your money. This is for manly men with long beards not man-boys. You need to develop your palate. Took me a while to get into peat. but once you're into it, it's amazing. One dram is never enough, my bottle is disappearing fast! If you like Glenfiddich/Glenlivet or (God forbid) any kind of Johnny Walker/Chivas blended rubbish, then stay away or it will offend your genteel senses and (lack of) sensibility.

One of the best Islay’s, It’s almost a liqueur scotch. I definitely don’t mean that in a bad way, the finish just goes on and on and on .......
