The Distillers Edition of Lagavulin, which has been double matured in Pedro Ximénez seasoned American oak casks, complementing the coastal smoke at the core of this classic Islay single malt and bringing waves of sweet fruit to the whisky.
Large helpings of peat are joined by dried fruit, raisins, and some vanilla sweetness.
Coastal smoke, with some salted toffee, and more sherry character.
Oaky spices linger, with lingering peat.
First IMpresion were disappointing . However having revisited the bottle it’s grown on me
Still a great dram, the smokiness and sweetness of the sherry combine superbly. My only gripe is that there is no indication of age, in the past you were told when spirit was distilled and was usually bottled around 16 years. The lack of age statement would in my opinion suggest a mix of different ages including younger ages have been used. Given this is a premium product at a premium price has cost it a final star.
