Lagavulin 21 YO 1991 Bottling Note

The original Lagavulin 21 Year Old has achieved legendary status in the whisky world so I was frothing at the bit to try this 52%abv Lagavulin bottled from first-fill ex-sherry casks. This is a limited release of 2,172 bottles bottled in 2012.

One bottle per person.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Vanilla and old pot pourii, leathery peat, passion fruit and star fruit in some exotic cocktail.

Palate: That tannic leathery peat followed by stewing tropical fruit with a syrupy mouth-feel.

Finish: Coal soot and burnt spice in a swift but wholesome finish.

Overall: There’s a lot going on with this dram, that would take an evening in itself to contemplate. Intriguing to unlock!

Lagavulin 21 Year Old 1991 (2012 Special Release) Reviews

Best Islay released in 2012???

A friend and I spent some time getting to know this bottle last night. This is a seriously top notch whisky. It pays to give this one time in the glass, and in fact to use a great glass like the Eisch Jeunesse. Tasted properly, this explodes with flavor and depth. Don't guzzle this. It opens up nicely with just a few drops of water.
