This 10 Year Old from Islay's Lagavulin was originally released as a Travel Retail Exclusive. Having rested in first fill American oak bourbon casks for a decade, it's a glorious combination of sweet, salt and spicy notes, all wrapped up with fragrant peat smoke.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
A sea breeze runs throughout rock salt, ripe apple, burnt sugar and maritime peat smoke.
Sweet and salty, with a good kick of chilli pepper, followed by roasted almond and more smoke.
A creamy, smoky, spicy finish.
Definitely not worth £70+. I got it in travel retail for £40 and that seemed about right. Certainly inferior to the 16, but still quite enjoyable. Unless the price comes down, you’re over paying.
Having recently tried the 8 year old and two different 16 year olds at the distillery at Lagavulin along with a Director's cask I believe... I was not treated to the 10 year old. Makes me think it's not amongst their best ? Oh and I was treated to a dram of the 25 year old seen as I'd turned 60 ! Allegedly it sells for ( and I choked at this point in proceedings ) the princely sum of £ 1,000 ! Well out my league I must say and not my favourite either.
Vastly inferior to the 16 and 8 expressions. Sweet and with a shirt finish. Still decent as it’s Lagavulin, but not great for the price. Also, I remember buying it in travel retail last year for £35...
