Decidedly smoky rye whisky from the Kyrö team in Finland! The rye used for this expression was smoked with alder wood, which they say can impart hints of smoked ham and campfire smoke. Blend that with the aromatic spiciness of rye and the creamy, vanilla-rich notes imparted by maturation in ex-bourbon, French oak, and new American white oak barrels, and you've got a spectacular spirit on your hands!

Forest floor earthiness, joined by whiffs of Sichuan pepper and freshly baked rye bread with butter.
Vanilla, more pepper, orange oil, a slow build of dry smoke with a little meaty heft behind it.
A long finish, with the smoke taking the spotlight.

Nose: Leather, new shoes. Palate: Smoked ham, smoked kippers. Almost too much smoke, nothing like your peat smoked whiskey which tend to be much more subtle.Maybe it’s just the wrong kind of smoke as it tastes kinda artificial, like the food flavourings they use on budget price smoked ham. Get the Kyro Malt Rye instead, much nicer (you can actually taste the rye).
Got this as a sample, which was a welcome change from the Scottish sherry finishes to a Christmas spice profile. Thought it was different but pleasant enough to be bottle worthy. Opened the bottle and the burnt Christmas tree flavour is far too forward and overpowers everything, very strange and different, but I find myself going back to try it again and again!
Very drinkable, with a woody sweetness. Sauna in a bottle ???
