    anCnoc Rascan

A 2015 addition to the range of peated anCnoc single malts, once again with a name reference a traditional peat-harvesting tool. The Rascan has been peated to 11.1 PPM (only just higher than the Rutter, which is peated to 11 PPM) and aged in American ex-bourbon barrels for "nearly a decade", according to the distillers at Knockdhu. Rascan is also a rather fun word to say - always a plus.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Honey and orange (perhaps a little bit of apple too), complimented by developing, earthy peat smoke.

    Palate

Peat is more pronounced on the palate, though well balanced with handfuls of sweet vanilla. A touch of old leather, too.

    Finish

Light and elegant as it ends, the last hint of smoke slowly fading out.

    Favourite Dram

The perfect amalgamation of Speyside and Islay flavour profiles. Fruity, peaty, light and well balanced. I particularly liked the hint of apple on the nose, and the light finish at the end. A beautiful gateway whisky for people who'd like to be introduced to the peaty-ness of Islay whiskies. My only problem with it is that I simply can't get enough of it!

    Pale & interesting

Feels more than 11.1ppm on the peat front, not usually one to put water in but a tiny drop does open this one up, very pale in colour and tastes a little young but all in all a pleasent dram.
