    anCnoc Peatheart - Batch 2

anCnoc has released its second batch of Peatheart single malt, a heavily-peated expression packing a hefty 40 PPM measurement! We've been very impressed with the peaty expressions coming from anCnoc, and Peatheart once again offers up marvellous waves of BBQ-style smoke and earthy richness, brilliantly balanced by zesty tropical fruit.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Mango and mint leaf, swiftly followed by waft after waft of roasted meat and charred oak.

    Palate

The peat is a touch more subdued on the palate (though definitely still integral tot he flavour profile), making a little room for pineapple and runny caramel.

    Finish

Bonfire embers and a hint of straw.

Maybe the name evokes wrong expectations, but a valuable addition to any peated Highlands collection

C.: Beautiful, pale, white wine (not coloured, not chill filtered) N.:fresh and easy, citrus, lemon grass, very light peat, later resin and needle woods P.: Still easy peat, light and fresh taste, later slightly perfumed (Vetyver) F.: Medium long, mingling between citrus peel and oak

Rewarding but NOT for those who aren't initiated in the ways of peat and smoke!

This is what I put in my "Whisky Tasting notes" Barley sugar. Smoke!! Slightly tar like. Candied ginger... literally a breath liquorice... soft fruit like kiwi or firm peach. Sometimes I get elderberry. This transitions to...Murray mint? Later there is cardamom. More mint. More soft fruit (I think)  on the aftertaste - sharp Victoria plum. Oily tar, rope, More smoke. Not really peat peaty like Ardbeg. Just a touch of it on the other side of the smoke... like a burned out fire.

    Another cracking anCnoc peaty whisky

I do enjoy anCnocs peaty stuff and this is no different, loved it.

    Definitely NOT for me. Disappointing

I have tried several of anCnoc's whiskies and enjoyed them all. Cutter, Rutter, etc. This however was a distinct disappointment. Thin, sharp, lacking in weight, body and structure. God forbid they should make a whisky like this again. They are capable of so much more.
