    anCnoc Peatheart - Batch 1

The smokiest whisky from the anCnoc Peaty range - Peatheart! The Knockdhu distillery has used barley malted to 40 PPM (for perspective, Highland Park whiskies sit at around 20 PPM, while Ardbeg whiskies weigh in at about 50-55 PPM) and it was aged in ex-bourbon barrels before bottling at 46% ABV.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Shortbread, oakcakes, pipe tobacco leading towards earthy peat smoke. Lighter notes of citrus peels and vanilla ice cream.

    Palate

Chocolate malt, a touch of BBQ meat, cinder toffee and cardamom seed.

    Finish

Surprisingly refreshing on the finish - smoke still persists, but notes of green apple and orange blossom develop alongside it.

Decent but no bang for the buck

It had good taste, alot of smoke and tar, bbq and citrus but it lacks something.. feels a little bit watered down or something, not as complex as I would wish. Reminds me of Lagavulin a little bit but not as good and the price is almost the same. This would be a decent choice for about 40-45 euro.

    Not unpleasant, just unremarkable

Whiskies, wines, women, wagons - each offer a wide range of choice, some you can afford, some you can’t; most will get you from A to B. The difference is the thrill of anticipation, the joy of the journey, and the pleasure of the afterglow. If Peatheart were a wagon, it would get you from A to B, reliably and in tolerable comfort. But I’d probably park it round the corner. I have no idea what the chaps at Master of Malt were smoking when they sampled this. On the nose, there is a very faint whiff of lychees and medicinal peat; on the palate, light, transient hints of tropical fruit soon fade as medicinal peat returns, along with raw spirit. Peatheart is priced more than 70% above Talisker 10, and only a tad less than legends such as Uigeadail or Benriach Peated Batch 1. To me, that seems incomprehensible.

    Surprising drink

Medicinal nose initially but really velvety on my tongue, sweet Shortbread and orange, surprisingly light at the end. Not my first choice but very pleasant

fresh, peaty light with a citrus edge

For an islay peat freak this is a nice change. Its delicate and light but smokey peaty and has a springbank citrus edge. Very light in colour ,its different not as heavy as my islay chums but not harsh for me as j.m. would say 87 out of 100 sort of score I would say

    Nice and light and peaty

It's a nice change for an islay peathead fan, light citrus like a springbank style plenty peat with a nice light finish .It ain't harsh in finish with my bottle doesn't really taste as strong as the 46 % proof would suggest it has a fresh taste but not harsh...
