Unveiled in the first half of 2015, anCnoc Barrow was originally released for the travel retail market. Another addition to their anCnoc Peaty Collection, Barrow weighs in at 13.5 pmm, and has been bottled 46% ABV without chill-filtration or additional colours. It is, of course, named after the noble wheelbarrow, a very hand bit of kit for harvesting peat.
Rich, smoky peat arrives first, joined by orange segments, sliced apples and a scoop of coffee ice-cream with toffee sauce.
Smoke builds, with a bit more oak-y warmth to it compared to the nose. Sweetness falls into the background.

I was given a sample tot at Manchester Airport, bought a bottle straight away. I would recommend it anyone who appreciates a peaty dram.
Simply marvelous. Wasnt sure what I really expected cause it's My first contact with AncNoc Whiskey - And I was not disapointed!
hmmm.. peat, little more than i thought, young but its good it has not been too long with re refill casks? yea the oak here is bitter, but not too much.. but overall so smooth, its not all young rerefill. creme brulee as they say fortunately YES, burnt sugar and all, pears..later some fine nuances, petrol! getting better.. VERY easy to drink, if you like to DRINK peated whisky, this is it, but otherwise its too light, bit like light ardbeg ten in a way, sweet (some salt too) for sipping hmm maybe its too boring as somebody warned me.. oh well, its not bad. 40 or below you can get it if you want to get drunk with your not so sipping friends :D
I'm no expert like some of the reviewers here but have been drinking mostly Islays for a few years and have recently moved on to some of the peatier Highland drams. Overall I've probably tried 40 or 50 single malts and this is the only one that had such a brutal alcohol kick, and that includes a few that had higher percentages than this. There is also a strong medicinal taste, and even with a little water added it tastes, to be frank, like a rough gin (and I like gin). I'm puzzled, given the price and provenance. Perhaps there is some acquired taste here I have not yet acquired?
Peaty from nose to aftertaste, sweet up front, dry finish.
