Knob Creek is a small batch bourbon produced by Jim Beam, distilled in a more traditional style and aged 9 nine years. It is named for the area in Kentucky where Abraham Lincoln grew up, it is said that the creek nearly claimed his life when he was swimming.
The nose is quite spicy and sweet. There are notes of melted salty butter on granary toast, there are notes of toasty oak and a touch of rye with caramel sweetness. The palate is quite peppy and full. There are notes of candy floss and nut oil, a touch of spice and dark chocolate, a little spice and charred oak. The finish is long with a touch of dryness, there are notes of nut oils and vanilla spice.
I know nothing of bourbons or any other sort of whiskey. Came across this while browsing the liquor section at a local shop and bought it. Home, and I'm ready to try it out. It's excellent on its own (neat), or with some ice. Found a recipe online for Old Fashioned and made that, it's still pretty damn good. I would recommend Knob Creek to non-whiskey drinkers, it does the job really well.
I see some bad reviews for this whiskey. For the price, I love it, but I paid 19.98! I just wonder how to drink it? At 100 proof, it seems a little stiff to be a sipping bourbon. How do people drink this? I gotta put a bunch of ice in it.
Fabsolutely lovely
Knob Creek 9 year old was rated very high on one site I looked at and I decided to pick up a bottle. The aroma of spice and cigar boxes is my favorite of all the bourbon's I have tried so far. The taste however was a big let down. The higher alcohol percentage brings on a lot of spice and it hits pretty hard. The finish was lackluster and I found it to leave a bitter aftertaste. I gave this bourbon a chance, but the more I had it the more I picked up on a strong flavor of alcohol. I wont be buying Knob Creek ever again.
Seemed like a very good bourbon the first bottle I received as a gift, but not memorable. Later, received another bottle and found my appreciation grew. Bought the third and fourth. Presently my favorite, by far. Strong flavor with complex character, many interesting changes between the attention getting beginning and the most satisfying finish ever.
