Now finally available in Europe, Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask won a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and was named Best Rest of the World Single Malt Whisky at the World Whiskies Awards in 2012!

I love sherried whisky so I thought I'd give the Kavalan a whirl. Nose: Intense! As you would imagine it's full of Sherry Sherry Sherry and then more Sherry which is propelled by the high ABV. In my bottle I had currant, jam, licorice, and some mild phenolic almost mecurocrome notes. Taste: Without water it's hard to overcome the alcohol , but with a little water it comes alive. Again, loads of grape, red fruits, mild oak and spices - tastes as it looks - deep, rich and full of flavour. Finish: Long and warming -NICE A POWER PACKED dram that is not for the novice. I fear it will scare many a whisky drinker that has not gone through many a whisky before attempting this bad boy. Amazingly powerful for a young whisky Conclusion : Unusual, glad I tried it, not sure I'd buy second bottle at the price, guess that's saying something #justsaying
As a whisky lover with a clear bias towards Scottish whisky, I was blown away by this. Captivating nose, mouth watering taste, fascinating finish. Lovely stuff.

One of the most lovely whiskies I have ever had the pleasure to taste...........I do recommend a " tear" of water to allow the bouquet and full flavours to come out from behind the alcohol
