Kinahan's has introduced The Kasc Project, which aims to delve into the unknown regarding whiskey making, using hybrid casks (kascs?). Each cask has been constructed from five different types of wood, including Portuguese, American, French and Hungarian oak, as well as chestnut. The result is a complex blend marrying all different types of cask. Innovative stuff from Ireland.
Juicy autumnal fruit, namely plum, alongside pear and apple crumble. Sweeter aromas of rich caramel and pineapple peek through, supported by a spicy undertone.
Somewhat syrups, with prominent charred oak, barbecued mango and more caramelised tropical fruit with a scattering of vanilla pod. Creamy fruit and nut chocolate drizzled with runny caramel.
Aromatic, Christmassy notes of nutmeg and clove, orange oil and brown sugar, with caramelised pineapple.

“I have only learnt about Kinahans recently. Tried visiting the whiskey maker when I was in Ireland this spring, but was told that they dont accommodate visitors. Saddened! The Kasc Project surprised me a lot. The flavours are something like a mix of aromas from a candy store.A very different kinda whiskey flavours to anything I tried before. The makers told me that one of the oak types used to age this whiskey is of "dying species". A hybrid cask, though? why is nobody else doing this? Flavours are very unexpected, I find hard to rate. It is different.”

This honestly reminds me of a really nice bourbon but a lot smoother than most I have tried. A great dram for the price and a future buy for me.
The first whiff actually reminds me of cognac. This is an incredible whiskey for this price. it had a beautiful dark amber colour, complex and yet pretty near taste (slight sharpness). No regrets at all buying this bottle.
Wow super complex, a lovely dram and also makes a great Old Fashioned. Great price for the quality.
Complex. Cannot say more. Cannot do the flowery stuff, just enjoyed Will I buy again - it’s already on my list.
Tried this in a bar in London last week during 'old fashioned week' and had to get a bottle. Too many whiskies get drowned out but Kasc holds up really well in cocktails. I had 2 - a Kasc old fashioned and a Kasc 'Hybrid' Sour. Firmly added to my basic but quality home bartender set.
