This is the 11th batch of Kilkerran Heavily Peated single malt from Campbeltown's Glengyle distillery. Drawn from a selection of 90% bourbon and 10% sherry casks, this edition was bottled at a robust 57.9% ABV.
In typical Kilkerran style, there is a citrus element on the nose with notes of lemon and key lime pie, along with touches of toasted rye bread and peat smoke.
There are notes of toasted marshmallows and campfire embers immediately on the palate, with hints of vanilla and custard.
The smokiness carries through to the finish, along with a mineral note to round off this dram.

“One of the fascinating things about Scotch Whisky is the differing opinions and personal likes and dislikes. Unlike the first poster - i find this expression - fantastic. I too am a fan of the Kilkerran 8 and the 12 , but i find this to be the best. Plenty of peat for my taste and my shelf always has Big Peat, Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Peat Chimney and smokehed open. Warm and full of flavor - even though it is young (just squeaking through at 3 year old would be my guess). Toffee on the nose. A very flavousome and peaty whisky at a great price. well done Kilkerran - 3 bottles down and i keep going back to this. ”

Peat slap in the face indeed, minerally & ginger powder. Nippy neat granted but it is CS, custard creams with water added. Peat finish go's on & on & Ariston.
Bought this on a whim, absolutely unbelievable for this price, no doubt I will keep this one constant stock in my cupboard, a real gem.
Now I know 5 stars should be reserved for the real "unicorn" whiskies of the world but £50 for cask strength kilkerran you can't ask for better. It's a belter straight of the bat. Oily, viscose mouth feel that springbank style funk that is impossible to describe. Not phenolic peat like an Islay. Not hot or particularly youthful tasting and gets better the further down the bottle you go. It's a wonder they can churn it out at the price they do. Great value for money heavyweight. M.Horrell
Opened this one month ago today. At first disappointed. One week later things where getting there. Now I would say it is a familiar Campbeltown profile all through this one. Salty, smoky, oily, fruity. Quality stuff. I am glad I got two more bottles of this one.
This has become one of my favourite NAS whiskies. Just beautiful complexity in my opinion, never get tired of this. Too bad it is so hard to find. Finished my bottle tonight, looking forward to the next release. Beautiful drink. No medicinal notes, just sweet and peaty goodness.
