A gorgeous Campbeltown whisky from the Kilkerran range, this 16 Year Old is the oldest release from the Glengyle Distillery to date! Lots of bright, zesty and tropical influence among the touches of gentle smoke and savoury coastal touches in this well-balanced dram.
The 2023 release is made using the following cask profile; 60% Sherry, 35% Bourbon, 5% Rum.
Lemon shortbread and zest, with white flowers, cut grass and dried kitchen herbs.
A touch of dried apricot leads into earthy peat, with peppery spice, biscuits, more herbs and a hint of brine.
Stone mineral notes balanced by ash and waxy peels.
Good stuff this, as everything Kilkerran. I actually prefer the 12 yo over this, especially for the money. Still great value, but surprisingly spirit-driven. Would expect more cask influence for a 16 yo.
