A handsome release from Islay's newest distillery, Kilchoman Sanaig is an enjoyably peaty single malt which has been vatted from both bourbon and sherry casks. It's named after a small, rocky creek rather near the distillery on the west coast of the island. Look out for plenty of fruit and earthy peat coming through on this one, with a touch of dark chocolate-covered raisins.
Pineapple chunks and white grapes. Hints of fresh coffee carry the earthy, subtly spicy peat. Toffee cubes.
More light fruits (this time of the peach variety), with dark chocolate raisins and a whisper of red berries. Peat grows and grows, with a little black pepper too.
Quite long with coastal peat lasting.
$34.79 - $112.38
Beautiful. My new favourite.
I love Islay malts and this is just a wee cut above not too peaty etc but just enough...if you know what I mean. Peppery sweet notes with a hint of choclate and the fiinish just wants another sip to confirm. Lovely dram "close your eyes, look out to sea" forget all materalist things, savour and enjoy.beautiful wee dram!
First dram...unsure, but that was because it was a big surprise as outside my usual flavour scope... second dram, prepared and what a deilght! I let mey (non whisky drinking) wife have a sniff - bonfires and smoke was the retort. She did not taste it, but it is a peaty kick in the chops followed by smoked caramel, chocolate ash anchored to a long, tongue deilighting, earthen finish. Just had another 3mls for a swill....better with every sip!
I'm a peat influenced rookie but Wow the peat hits hard and stays on your tongue for the long hall. I was barely able to get any of the other nuanced flavors from the peat assault. Enjoying it in small doses.
Excellent nose, long finish.
