Kilchoman Sanaig

A handsome release from Islay's newest distillery, Kilchoman Sanaig is an enjoyably peaty single malt which has been vatted from both bourbon and sherry casks. It's named after a small, rocky creek rather near the distillery on the west coast of the island. Look out for plenty of fruit and earthy peat coming through on this one, with a touch of dark chocolate-covered raisins.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Pineapple chunks and white grapes. Hints of fresh coffee carry the earthy, subtly spicy peat. Toffee cubes.

Palate

More light fruits (this time of the peach variety), with dark chocolate raisins and a whisper of red berries. Peat grows and grows, with a little black pepper too.

Finish

Quite long with coastal peat lasting.

A lovely drop

Lovely nose on this one, yes it's mighty peaty, but also mighty fruity. Beneath the bonfire smoke, there's notes of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum, pear drops, pineapple chunks on the fruit side. Along this there's black treacle and toffee too. It's deep and rich in the mouth, yes the peat is there but not overpowering. The sweetness from the sherry really shines in the mouth, mixed berries and pears alongside that espresso/black treacle note. The finish is very long and warm

Rich, flavorful

but still distinctly Islay. Peppery peat smoke lingers in the finish after dark chocolate rules the palate with just a tease of subtle citrus & berry notes. Richer overall than Machir Bay, but not quite as sweet.

Incredible nose

My second Kilchoman after Machir Bay and the colours tell it's gonna be sherry.. The nose is one of the best I've ever experienced. Such a lovely floral and chocolate sent I kept smelling it really long. That plate isn't as great but sitll very nice. Love the story of kilchoman and gonna try more of their products. A very good sherry peat whisky.

Good, but not as good as others

It's good, it's very good. But for the price point, Ardbeg Uigeadail is cheaper, cask strength, also sherry casked and a much more intense overall experience.

Spectacular

The review given below on 6th of April is talking pish. This is one of the best I've tasted, there's so many layers of flavour, no harshness and for my money a perfect balance of notes. I could drink a glass every night and not get bored. Love it
