Kilchoman Sanaig Bottling Note

A handsome release from Islay's newest distillery, Kilchoman Sanaig is an enjoyably peaty single malt which has been vatted from both bourbon and Sherry casks. It's named after a small, rocky creek rather near the distillery on the west coast of the island. Look out for plenty of fruit and earthy peat coming through on this one, with a touch of dark chocolate-covered raisins.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Pineapple chunks and white grapes. Hints of fresh coffee carry the earthy, subtly spicy peat. Toffee cubes.

Palate: More light fruits (this time of the peach variety), with dark chocolate raisins and a whisper of red berries. Peat grows and grows, with a little black pepper too.

Finish: Quite long with coastal peat lasting.

Kilchoman Sanaig Reviews

If you like Islay you must try this

Bought this for my friend, who is something of a connoisseur when it comes to Islay whisky. He really enjoyed this and I did too! In fact it is now his new favourite. Smokey, peaty and nicely rounded by the sherry sweetness. Better than any others I have tasted for his price level, so great value too.

Nams,I have to say one of the best Islay whiskeys I have tasted.Smooth and full of flavours and sweet is good for my taste.

Perfect whisky to unwind with.

Excellent smooth and sweet whisky with no harshness I could detect. Sherry notes to the fore for me which I found very pleasant.
Perhaps a little less complex than some but a nice dram all the same. A little too easy to drink if anything. I don't think this bottle will last very long.

Excellent go to nalt to unwind with. Smooth and sweet.

First taste of this particular whisky and I like it very much. I am not a whisky expert, far from it, but this is one of the best I have tried. Very smooth, sweet sherry notes and no harshness I can detect. Pleasant lingering peat but not overwhelming. Perhaps less complex than some I have tried but a very pleasant dram. As good as the bottle of 18yr old Bowmore which I enjoyed recently.
Definitely very much influenced by the sherry and therefore may not appeal to those who do not appreciate this aspect.
For those that appreciate a good sherry I suspect you will love this.

An exceptional Islay malt

An exceptional malt, very well balanced. Highly recommended.

A wonderful surprise in a cynical industry

This has peat but also depth and sweetness.
It takes a bit of breathing to marry such disparate flavours but it is worth the wait.
A sherried Islay? Wonders will never cease!
I don't know how old this is, but it certainly doesn't suffer from two common limitations of NAS drams: thinness and harshness.
Of course there are a few wonderful NAS bottles out there, but many of them opt for a high peat, high octane taste profile to cover their youth. I have not tasted one which has such body and ease of drinking.
It states "natural colour" on the bottle.
I sincerely hope this means "no added colouring" rather than " the added colour is natural."
This is excellent whisky which tastes better than many 12 or even 15 year old single malts.
I will definitely be exploring more.

A great rich sweet smoky dram.

This whisky has got me back into Isay whiskies, so smooth and sweet and a great long aftertaste.

Going Keep an eye on these ones once the age statements come out what a great whisky

Well my first try of Kilchoman whisky what a delight, bourbon and sherry cask. that lovely Islay rich smoke with vanilla and citrus sweetness and toffee with a sweet peat smoke lasting and adding a bit of spice at the end. Great dram

Young and nuanced peat

A young and full crowd, full of nuances ranging from sweet to salty. This Islay takes you for a ride. A great experience.

Deep and full of flavour

This was upsold to me by my local whisky merchant based on my love of Caol Ila and I decided to take a chance on it. Deliciously sweet peat straight off, tiny bit of spice and really nice long finish. And what a colour! Did not expect such a good taste from such a young spirit.
I've not had a bad Kilchoman yet and will be keeping a close eye on them.
