Kilchoman Machir Bay Bottling Note
Kilchoman's Machir Bay is an excellent single malt Scotch whisky from the isle of Islay. The distillers use whisky which has been matured in ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso Sherry butts, resulting in a well-balanced flavour profile, with highlights of vanilla biscuits, light fruit and wafts of warm peat smoke. A top expression from Islay's farm distillery.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: Citrus zests, crumbly vanilla biscuits and layers of elegant peat smoke.
Palate: A generous burst of tropical fruit and dried raisin opens the palate. Warming smoke continues to waft playfully.
Finish: Sherried fruits and sprinkle of cracked black pepper.

Kilchoman Machir Bay Reviews
Not there yet
As a Islay lover I wanted to give this a shot. Love their story of being farm distillery. Now I would want to give this a 5 star but it's more like 3 or 4. Opening the bottle it smells vile and like chemical acid. Weird. Let it rest for a while and the nose tones down little. Then picking citrus and hint of peat. Not bad, but not really good. Probably too young. Gonna taste their other products and see if they have what it takes to be Islay whisky. Also a bit overpriced in my mind.

Nice smooth islay
Saw this bottle between the already known, so decided to try it out. At home I realized there was no age indication but I guess I was attracted by the nice package and the unfamiliarity of the brand.
After pouring in a glass I was quite surprised by the gentle Islay smell, very smooth, citrus, butter and no strong alcohol smell, even at 46%. At the palate a bit strong, with honey, dried nuts, chocolate, but the finish was really smooth, again with citrus dominating, perhaps a bit of apricot.
Can recommended this whiskey, there are better ones (aren't there always?) but this one is clearly nice. Will buy again and that says enough.

An excellent smoky, pleated single malt in the Islay style
Lagavulin 16 is in short supply in the US northeast right now, presumably because of the boats piled up at a few backlogged ports. This is a reasonable option while I wait. Lacks the complex citrus aromas and flavors of the Lagavulin, but in its favor the Kilchoman does offer the smoky peat I look for, sweeter aromas of spice cake and fruit, and salty hints of sea-spray.

A decent Islay
Some reviews on here fail to grasp that this is a typical Islay. Reasonably heavy on the peat. If you don’t like peated whisky don’t buy this.
Have this neat and at 46% you’re not going to pick up any subtle flavours. A dash of water brings out the sweet honey and sherry notes which combine really well with the oak and smokiness.
Is it comparative to a a lagavulin 16 at a a similar price? No. But it’s different in a good way.
A man who only has one Islay really has none at all. Add it to the collection.

Not the best
Relies too much on the peat. Not a smooth finish and underaged

Faultless Islay
An already classic expression from Kilchoman, drink this at your own peril! You’ll end up down the rabbit hole of wanting to buy everything that these incredible folk put out! Proper whisky.

Not good too smoked
Tasted like someones sweaty sock had been barbecued

The Oban of Islays
Soft tar smoke, and not much else.
Reminded me of Oban. Unassuming but a bit bland.
Like Oban, it's also £10 more than I judge it's worth.

Young NAS
Young, harsh aggressive. Needs more aging. Over priced. There are better Islay malts out there. Prefer Lavagulan or Laphroaig.

A whiskey that needs that meditation time.
This whiskey is good, smooth to the palate, it’s the type of whiskey to bring out on special occasions,
With friends who are off the same mind with similar tastes, however it’s also a whiskey you can enjoy in the peace and comfort of your home.
