Solist is German for 'Soloist', which in this case refers to the fact that this expression is from Kavalan's single cask range (they really, really like musical metaphors). Given this whisky is of course Taiwanese, I can't really tell you why this range has an apparently German name but I can tell you that their ex-Bourbon cask releases won a Gold Medal at both the ISC 2010 and the IWSC 2011. Impressive.
referred to the sherry cask version. I had put it under the wrong title, excuse me. The bourbon version tastes much better to me, with rich, aromatic sweetness that is immediately satisfying yet keeps on and on. It will be a classic.
So much so that the taste goes a long way towards a brandy. An impressive dram by itself though. For a better balanced result I'd suggest the ex-bourbon version from the same series.
Excited to try it!
This was a part of the advent calendar today. Lovely, sweet and warming. One of my favourites.
