An Amontillado-Sherry-cask matured Taiwanese single malt whisky from the King Car distillery, released as part of their Kavalan Solist range. Incredibly interesting stuff, this is...
Vanilla-y barley, with peanut brittle and dried apricot. Subtle white chocolate notes develop.
Coffee bean spiciness, leading into rich toffee, treacle and toasted oak.
Peppercorn and Sherry-soaked cherries.
Worth the wait, if you have a chance, buy it. Excellent beyond words.
This was my favourite whiskey until I tried Balcones French Oak. A steal at quarter the price.
Phenomenal, simply phenomenal... Didn’t expect it to be this good. Very complex and long-lasting fruitiness. I think I need two more bottles of the Kavalan Amontillado—one for drinking and one for collecting.
I always save the best for last. The Kavalan Solist Amontillado is what I’d save for my last sip; right after the Vinho Barrique. I can’t believe that a random trip to Asia would have upend my satisfaction for scotch. This is the best whisky I have ever tried. If you are a smoke guy, then move on because that’s not what this drink is about. Again I’d say that I think taste is a subjective definition. When you sip the Amontillado, it was like I was sitting next to a mountain creek in the middle of pristine nature. It was full of delicious notes and throws you in a different dimension. It’s hard to describe how you can taste a desert full of fruits, nuts, vanilla and chocolate. It was the best spirit I have had and if it wasn’t for the label to remind me that it was strong, I’d say it was non-alcoholic. I mean it was smooth and long lasting. I love it, and I’d recommend it over and over. The only sour taste was that price tag. The price at the distillery wasn’t far off from what you have on this website. But again, this would be one of the best whiskies in your life, if the bottle was stored and looked after properly. Not your average scotch/whisky, and only for special occasions.
