    Single Malt

    Jura 18 Year Old

At the peak of the Jura distillery's core range (relaunched in mid-2018) sits the Isle of Jura 18 Year Old. This expression aged in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period in Premier Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux barrels, imparting a rich fruitiness. Top stuff for late evening dramming.

I got hit with fruits/chocolate/and a lovely finish

I enjoyed this very much. The longer i held my first sip and sloshed it around in my mouth the second sip was extremely smooth. Im a fan but everyones pallette is different

    Finished? Don't Get Me Started!

This dram is a perfect example of why "finished" whiskies should be treated with the utmost suspicion. Theoretically, an extra period of maturation in sweet wine casks may add another layer or two of flavour, or conversely, it may be used to conceal the atrocious flaws in a whisky which has matured very poorly for the previous seventeen and a half years of its existence. Whilst the nose is rich, fruity, oaky spicy and inviting, it's all downhill from there into the palate and finish, which is hot, rough and sour. Twenty, thirty or forty years ago, this would have been sold as blend filler. Alas, such is the hysterical demand for Scotch Single Malt, this woefully ill-conceived whisky is available for you today, you lucky, lucky thing. b.t.w. IWSC medals are handed out like Smarties, and shouldn't be taken seriously.

    Nice dram for the money.

Opened a bottle for Fathers Day, my son and I thought it was really nice, very smooth.

Oh dear - oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. What a pity. Afraid I’m with the review ‘No. Just No’ of 8 November 2018. This is the first time, ever, in many years of enjoying malt whiskies, that I’ve come across one that I really did not like – at all. Sadly, the tasting notes of ‘No. Just No’ describe this stuff all too well. Loads of very old, so old it tastes dusty, sherry – the sort of dark sweet sherry that mythical maiden aunts might keep in the bottom of a bottle, lurking in a cupboard, year after year after year – mixed up with manky old corked red wine. Why? Anyone can make a mistake, but why release your blunder and risk ruining a good name? Just knock the bung out and pour the stuff down the drain. That’s what I did with the rest of my bottle.
