White Walker Bottling Note

A limited edition whisky from Johnnie Walker, inspired by the absurdly popular television programme, Game of Thrones (in turn based off of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice book series). Created by whisky specialist George Harper and his team, this whisky features malts from Clynelish (aptly one of the most northern Scotch whisky distilleries) and Cardhu, among others. The bottle has a temperature-sensitive graphic that will spell out the words “Winter is here” when it's at the right temperature for serving.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Soft hints of orange Fruit Pastilles and dried apricot. Toffee, vanilla pod and ginger snaps.

Palate: More vanilla again, this time paired with cinnamon and almond. Hints of fresh cherry and cut oak heat.

Finish: Lingering peppery malt and festive spices.

White Walker by Johnnie Walker Reviews

Freaking amazing.

I put the green label down to try this, best decision ever!!!

I was confused and sceptical at first because it smelt a little like Jim Beam but pleasantly surprised that it still had the smooth scotch taste!

It goes down waaay too well, especially for 41%!

This would be the only Winter I'd like to stay!!!

You will like it

Very nice, smooth taste, delightful texture if you are a newcomer to a world of whiskey you will definitely like it!

Super smooth

A bit expensive but worth your money

Bloody awful.

The clues were all there. When the bottle asks you to freeze it before drinking that should say it all. It was terrible at room temperature and on lay a little bit less terrible when frozen. It’s a novelty item for sure and better for those that put cola with their whisky. It’s totally unacceptable as a sipping whisky. Its not for whisky drinkers but is an intro to whisky for people who like game of thrones. May be a commercial success but way overpriced and worth avoiding for whisky fans.

Where's Jon Snow when you need him?

Not content with killing thousands and desecrating their bodies, spearing an extremely endangered species to death and smashing a hole in a millennia-old structure that must be Grade-1 listed, the Night King has saved his biggest atrocity for the world of whisky.

I must agree with one of the other reviews - heavy artificial vanilla and what is that metallic taste about? Valerian steel, perhaps.

This isn't actively unpleasant but its certainly bordering on it. I suppose it could be mixed without offending anybody and, with enough ice, its drinkable but I would take nearly all of the entry-level, no-age-statement basic blends over this.

Predictable Misery

Basic grain-heavy blend. Artificial vanilla and a strange metallic note throughout both on the nose and the palate. I tried this at room temperature and from the freezer, as recommended by JW. And guess what; they were right! It is better from the freezer........because you can't taste half of it.

This seriously is basic blend territory. Getting people to pay £40 for it is borderline genius.

What a Pleasant Surprise!

Surprisingly good! Different, just different, and truly enjoyable.

Different - enjoyable, and with a pleasant taste

A very different whisky to the others in the range, It's the first time I have had a whisky without ice as it is stored in the freezer before opening. The immediate impression is that it seems to be more silky than most whiskies and the ice coldness is easily adjusted to.
Very different and to me very likeable at an affordable price.

Worth a try

After a few drinks it reveals some unique characters. Better than most single malt around 30 euros, like Glenfiddich 12yo or Singleton 12yo. But at the same price level as the Green Label, it is not as good. Anyway, it's worth a try, but you may not want a second bottle.

Smooth but light

First off, I think this is a nice innovation from Johnnie Walker and the packaging is stunning, the temperature sensitive panels (revealed when the bottle is cold) work well too. When it comes to the liquid, it is very sift and smooth and easy to drink with a lovely viscosity when served from the freezer. Sadly for me it lacked intensity and complexity and seems more suited to newcomers to Scotch (given the GoT tie-in this makes perfect sense) but for me it was a bit like Haig Club. Fans of the Platinum JW will probably like this. I'll stick to the Green Label.

Worst whisky

For almost 40€, we can get Glengoyne 12y, bemriach curiosités 10y or kilkerran 12y. Cold, this tastes like water and at room temp, this is cheap grain blend... If you appreciate whisky, this is not for you.
