    Johnnie Walker Blue Label

The Johnnie Walker Blue Label story begins in 1987 when the Distillers Company launched Johnnie Walker Oldest. It quickly became known as Blue Label, for obvious reasons, and was a blend of rare malt and grain whiskies bottled without an age statement with stylishly retro packaging that echoed the 19th century Johnnie Walker bottle.

Though expensive, or perhaps because it was expensive, it proved an instant hit. By 1997, it was selling 50,000 cases globally. As a known currency throughout the world, it’s perhaps the ultimate gift whisky. You know you’ve done a good job or your in-laws approve when you receive a bottle.

Blue Label is drawn from unparalleled Diageo reserves of maturing malt and grain whiskies from across four regions (Highland, Lowland, Speyside, and Islay), including ghost distilleries, that Johnnie Walker has privileged access to. Whatever the exact blend, a consistent flavour profile that’s a beautiful balance of rich, slightly smoky, and fruity elements.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Fragrant with good body. Notes of oak, crisp spice, dried fruit, pastries. Berry fruits, aniseed, hints of cedar, a touch of spice and citrus.

    Palate

Supple and balanced. Good toffee and hints of very wistful smoke. Chocolate, hints of grass and a good hit of malt.

    Finish

Floral, oaky, good length, urged on by a plume of very well-kept, highland style smoke. Dried fruit, spice, honey.

    Overall

One of the ultimate premium blends, Blue Label is a legend in its own right and will continue to be.

A high quality easy to enjoy blend.

This is the drink for when you just want to sit back and enjoy. When you don't have the space to critique or assess nose or finish. It's a great whisky for the uninitiated and stands tall amongst others in it's class. It is overpriced for what it is, but many things in life are. A MontBlanc pen, a Mercedes Benz, a Hugo Boss three piece are all similar examples of products which have lower priced competition, but which are still an enduring mark of quality.

    Expensive for what it is

I had Jonny Walker Blue Label as part of a blind taste test of 5 exclusive Whiskies and it was my second least favourite. Harsh, unrefined, lacked a full bodied flavour in my opinion it -from memory I preferred Black Label as at least it had a smokey flavour.

    Whole new level...

So, this is the whisky. THE Whisky! The capital W is well deserved. It's the best I have ever had in all my long years of kicking them back and sipping. Just hands down the very best. It'll make you never want to drink anything less worthy ever again. It's like the bottle of life and getting kicked out of the Garden of Eden because now your eyes are opened. LOL! What can I say. The first drink was good, but the second one hit me like a blinding light. It's so smooth you won't believe it. I mean, people are always saying that about different "special" whiskeys and "not" so special whiskeys, but this is it to a T. You take that first drink and nothing major happens at first. There's no punch to the mouth or fire or bight that makes you quickly open your mouth to exhaust the fumes or anything like that. Then it slides down your throat and you feel a nice warm sensation in the belly. Just wow! Now what this does is allow you to taste all those subtle flavors that the pros are always talking about. Without that fire in the mouth all the flavors are there and easy to get to. I noticed at the second drink. I was like wow, there's that caramel, and cream, and peat (very light), and many other things that'd be hidden in a less refined whiskey. So, I'm not sure where I go from here. The angels with fiery swords have pushed me out of the Garden, but I think I'll break back in! :')

    Lovely balanced and smooth.

Johnnie Walker blue is that whiskey for the people that don’t really like whiskey but want to come across as cool and interesting. It’s still a decent bottling, and I have ordered the Chinese New Year bottles as the art is brilliant.

    All about the Finish....

I do realize some view this as a vanity item. However, for me this scotch whiskey blend simply has my favorite finish of all time. Its a 5 for me because I long for that distinct spice/tabacco finish that compliments the subtle hints of sweetness and chocolate.
