Blended
Scotland
Originally released to the travel retail market, Double Black combines the rich, malty flavour of Black Label with slightly peatier whisky and casks that were more heavily charred. The result is a toasty, smoky whisky with Johnnie Walker's usual rich, malty core.
Slightly smoky and almost medicinal on the nose, it offers up hints of vanilla, a little tar, a touch of barbecue sauce, citrus and malt.
Good body and very creamy with a sublimely malty core. It offers up a surprising level of peat smoke which works really well. Creamy sweetness, hints of soft wood smoke, salty butter, custard and cereal grains.
Good length with notes of malt, boiled sweets, black pepper and cool smoke.

much better than the standard black. there are better blends on the market though. this one and Dewars 12 (blue box) are my favs
Is a very soft to the palate. smoked scotch, reminds me the good green label, this blend is for neat or with ice.
Well, I wasn't as taken with this drop as I thought I might be. It's certainly a step up from JW Black, but I didn't really enjoy the burnt taste in the finish. It just tasted like a bush fire if I'm honest, and although I finished the bottle, I doubt I'd buy it again in deference to the Green Label.
- am I crazy or does the smoke seems like an afterthought add in that doesn't belong? It's very drinkable but in the end it's a somewhat flawed blend.
It's been years since I had a drink of Johnnie's juice, but when I saw this one in an airport duty free, I had to try it out. What a great and pleasant surprise. A friendly smoke caresses the nostrils. As the whisky get to breathe, I also get some nice, rough liqourice and some tar. In the mouth it is smooth and rich but not heavy at all. Not the slightest alcohol burn. The finish is short. Much shorter than I would have liked. The smoke goes first, the liqourice and tar last a tad longer. But it's an very very drinkable and enjoyable blend.
