Blended
Scotland
Originally released to the travel retail market, Double Black combines the rich, malty flavour of Black Label with slightly peatier whisky and casks that were more heavily charred. The result is a toasty, smoky whisky with Johnnie Walker's usual rich, malty core.
Slightly smoky and almost medicinal on the nose, it offers up hints of vanilla, a little tar, a touch of barbecue sauce, citrus and malt.
Good body and very creamy with a sublimely malty core. It offers up a surprising level of peat smoke which works really well. Creamy sweetness, hints of soft wood smoke, salty butter, custard and cereal grains.
Good length with notes of malt, boiled sweets, black pepper and cool smoke.

Awesome
It's just ok to me. Personally I do prefer Black Label. The smoke flavour can be overwhelming and for some a cause of nausea, as it appears not natural.
Fabulous!!! My new favorite!
I'm a big fan of JWDB. I enjoy its complexity mixed with peaty smoke. It is smooth, flavorful, has an enjoyable longer lasting finish, and is inexpensive. Highly reccomended.
I like this for a simple weeknight scotch. I'm primarily an Islay or Bourbon drinker. Not usually a fan of strong floral or citrus flavors. JWDB is a really nice balance of smoke and floral notes though. The nose can bring a surprisingly pleasant burnt toast note, but its definitely subtle and competes with young grains. And it actually does maintain the toffee/caramel/maple syrup notes that regular JWB has (others disagree). Smooth on the palate with a relatively short peppery finish and still plenty of that subtle complexity of the floral/citrus/peat mix that characterizes JW blends. I actually prefer this to something like a Talisker DE single malt. Its not as powerful and it certainly doesn't have a strong single identity, but it offers more flavors to mull over than most single malts, and it goes down easy.
