Blended
Scotland
Originally released to the travel retail market, Double Black combines the rich, malty flavour of Black Label with slightly peatier whisky and casks that were more heavily charred. The result is a toasty, smoky whisky with Johnnie Walker's usual rich, malty core.
Slightly smoky and almost medicinal on the nose, it offers up hints of vanilla, a little tar, a touch of barbecue sauce, citrus and malt.
Good body and very creamy with a sublimely malty core. It offers up a surprising level of peat smoke which works really well. Creamy sweetness, hints of soft wood smoke, salty butter, custard and cereal grains.
Good length with notes of malt, boiled sweets, black pepper and cool smoke.

Revisited after a year. Smokey and delicious. Definitely a unique blend that delivers.
The best of regional single malts blended into one—- perfect — peat and oaky smoke come through with balance.
I was mightily disappointed with my first encounter of this as it was no where near as peaty and smokey as i was lead to beleive . I thought i was going to relegate it to the sacrificial coke and whisky shelf....however, after a couple of nights with this i actually realised i liked it for its own merits, it does have some background smoke, very very mild, nice hints of sweetness and oldy worldy oak/leather/cigar. Give it a chance and i think it is a wisky that you will grow to enjoy after getting over the disappointment of what you may have been expecting.
I never licked the barbecue. But i guess now i know how it would taste.
I was a bit apprehensive in buying this because of all of the reviews talking about the level of smoke in this bottle. I believed it would be similar to Ardbeg or Laphroag (I dont care for either). If you are thinking the same, let me put this to rest, it tastes nothing like those Islay scotches. That 'medicinal' band-aid flavor is nowhere to be found. Just delicious wood smoke with a nice dash of rich, sweet, honey goodness in the background. Absolutely delicious! Takes ice and water much better than regular black label. This is the best $30 scotch you will ever buy!
