Johnnie Walker
Scotland
Originally released to the travel retail market, Double Black combines the rich, malty flavour of Black Label with slightly peatier whisky and casks that were more heavily charred. The result is a toasty, smoky whisky with Johnnie Walker's usual rich, malty core.
Slightly smoky and almost medicinal on the nose, it offers up hints of vanilla, a little tar, a touch of barbecue sauce, citrus and malt.
Good body and very creamy with a sublimely malty core. It offers up a surprising level of peat smoke which works really well. Creamy sweetness, hints of soft wood smoke, salty butter, custard and cereal grains.
Good length with notes of malt, boiled sweets, black pepper and cool smoke.

Smooth and Smokey
This is not good whisky as they have relied on more smoke by heavy charring the casks. They ought to have added more peated whiskies to the standard JW Black 12 that would have produced a much better result. Stay well clear of this one.
I tasted it "cowboy" with my eyes closed as it´s mouth-watering and I didn´t want any kind of "mix" at first. Then after adding some water, in a while I figure out how it oppened a smooth transcendence!
At first it "kicks hard", but when you add some water and let it be for awhile, then it really opens up. Light smokiness followed by splendid smoothness. Long finish. Like a gentle morning. (R)
Smokey rather than peaty with a cloying sweetness that is guaranteed to get on your nerves. On the plus side - lovely looking bottle and box.
