At some point in the 1970s, John Crabbie & Co stopped producing their whiskies - but in early 2018, they returned to the fray! As their own distillery in Edinburgh gets up and running, they released a pair of single malt whiskies from undisclosed distilleries, including this 8 Year Old expression (and a 30 Year Old, too). It's based around their original 8 Year Old Blend produced long ago, but intriguingly a bit different...
Caramel, raisin and honey-coated peanuts.
Buttered scones, waxy orange peel and a touch of cassia.
Lingering orange oil sweetness.
Very pleasant and a nice after taste quite smooth and drinkable
Have been told that this is from a distillery somewhere on the border of the Highland and Speyside regions. Tomatin or Royal Brackla maybe? In any case it's very drinkable for the money.
Decided to give this one a try, bought a bottle from MOM. On the nose was malt and lemon. The palate had a nice peppery “bite” to it, with fruit and caramel. Medium-finish with lingering cereal, biscuits (vanilla?), honey and a waft of smoke. Not bad at all.
Was given a bottle for Christmas and very nice too. Lovely taste for an 8year old.
Received a sample bottle as a whisky Santa gift and although it was frèe it was very drinkable for a younger whisky. Citrusy and a bit peppery with vanilla notes and slight honey. Would definitely consider a full bottle for the cabinet.
