    Product details

    Bain's Cape Mountain Whisky

First released in 2009, this is South Africa's first ever single grain whisky, coming from the The James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington. Bain's Cape Mountain whisky is matured in first fill bourbon casks for an initial three years before spending a further two years in fresh first fill bourbon casks! It's named after the chap who built the first roads in Wellington.

“Something different. A New World Whisky unlike any other. I heard about this when it won best single grain whisky in the world (2013), piqued my interest. Finally getting around to try it. Pronounced fruit and smooth. Would buy - good entry level. Skeptical on where to place it, as its one of the only new world whisky that's not trying to replicate what Scotland or America does. Try it for yourself - may not be for everyone.”

Reviews for Bain's Cape Mountain Whisky

No right to be this smooth

It calls itself a whisky but is made from corn which I'm still not sure if that makes it a whiskey. Either way, I'd heard this had won awards before going to Cape Town so was intrigued to try it. Crikey, was I impressed. Insanely smooth and easy drinking. So good I bought 2 bottles back and stupidly gifted one of them - their gain was certainly by loss. This whisk(e)y is immense.

    Long drinks

Definite bourbon theme, more subtle than Jack Daniels etc, needs coke and ice for my palate. Not unpleasant!

    Its different

This a light grain Whisky, which is better off in cocktails than drinking neat. The taste is ok, but not to my liking. Kev Doncaster

    Very very good.

It's a lovely whisky. I wasn't expecting it to be nearly as good as it is. Bit of a bourbon thing going on. But pretty complex and a bit to easy to drink. My new daily.

    Good, in a different way

I've just cracked into my bottle. Lovely sweet fruity nose with custard and caramel. On the palate I enjoy a pleasant light flavour with oak, aromatic spiciness and sweet fruit. The finish is very pleasant, lingering nicely with a warmth and oakiness. This is pleasant light whisky, light but not at all boring. There's a lovely creamy dessert thing going on here. I recommend highly at the price.
