If you didn’t think that Jack Daniel’s made rye whiskey, think again! The distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee produces over 16 million barrels of whiskey a year and rye has always been a fixture in its mashbills. What we have here is a rye-forward whiskey, however, one that’s the result of the first new grain recipe in 150 years, made with 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley. What's more, this rye is drawn from single barrels.
Hazelnut and almond, spicy grain and an underlying hint of corn.
Light oak spices develop first, alongside another helping of corn sweetness. Ripe apricot and orange.
Lingering peppery warmth.
Started of weak, with no hint of rye. After a couple of days it got air and the rye started to rise both on the nose and palate. Not bad for JD but the price is quite high. Mayby the bottle is expensive... With higher proof and more rye it would be good. Wait... there is already one. Wild Turkey 101.
All spice and burn. A hint of sweet
This really is a nice drink, can’t recommend it enough. Mild and smooth. Drink it neat and sip it, don’t bother with Ice. It’s fairly new but it’s worth it’s price.
It's just awesome
Good grog, incredibly smooth 100% worth the money
