Jack Daniel's
The fourth release in the Jack Daniel's Master Distillery Series, which gives light to the folks behind the legendary Tennessee whiskey. This edition honours Jess Gamble, whom was notable for being the first Jack Daniel's Master Distiller that didn't come from the Jack's family
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Light with plenty of sweetness. There are hints of dry spice and oily nuts, a touch of smoke.
Quite smooth and soft with notes of banana milkshake, a mixed nut note, a touch of caramel with crème anglaise.
Sweet with a little cereal sweetness and toasty oak.

I took a punt on this as it was on offer for £21 and very glad that I did. It's different enough from regular Jack that I wouldn't have guessed if I hadn't known. There are some subtle JD notes in there but overall it's got a lot more going for it - deeper, darker, a fair amount of spice and it even has a bit of chew. If you like rye, this is better than JD's own rye brand, give it a go, but don't pay over £30 for it!
This is everything I look for in a bourbon, punchy, a hint of fruit and a burn on the way down when drunk neat. It's one of the better examples of Jack Daniels, up there with the Single Barrel expression. It also mixes well with Pepsi or Ginger Ale which I'm aware is a crime in some circles, but bourbon is my mixer choice for a tall drink. Not one for the whisky fans though, there's very little subtlety and no peaty smoke tastes
Never drunk such a strange whiskey. On the nose caramelized banana. In the mouth a strange sweet mix, i feel the rye but also a passage in barrels of rum? My partner likes it, but it's not for me
I wasn't impressed, the overall tasting note was coconut? Not to my taste at all. I paid somewhere in the region of £25.00 on offer in Tesco, I'd have been really miffed if I'd paid £40.00 for it!
Never been a big fan of the classic sour mash, sickly sweet and unmistakable. However after picking up a bottle of their single barrel I found there was another side to J.D. Obvious really with such a big brand, but it got me wondering so i've given a few of these "master distilers" a try. I was impressed! Some of them are really rather good. This is one of them. Instantly recognisable as a jack but slides away from sweet into a mellow tang reminiscent of dried bananas. A warming bite of alcohol hits then leaves banoffee pie to finish. Charcoal filter is evident. Its not a go to whisky but worth experiencing.
