Gentleman Jack

Sorry about this...

We can't actually ship Gentleman Jack to you in United States at the moment. We're working on a solution.

Gentleman Jack Bottling Note

A premium version of Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey, Gentleman Jack exhibits impressive complexity and flavour. The main difference is that it enjoys a 'double mellowing' as it's filtered through charcoal both before being filled into the barrel (the Lincoln County Process) and before it's bottled. Certainly good enough to enjoy on its own, in his book Whisky: The Manual Dave Broom also suggests that Gentleman Jack actually works better than the regular Jack Daniel's Old No.7 in a Jack and Coke too.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Spicy nose with caramel, charred oak and a little aniseed.

Palate: Liquorice-led palate with oak and cinnamon, a touch of banana too.

Finish: Roasty and toasty finish, plenty of spice and citrus too.

Gentleman Jack Reviews

Finally something I can drink!!

I'm not a fan of liquor. It all tastes the same to me and I think the idea of tasting notes is so pompous, as it is with wine connoisseurs. What I will say is that this gentleman jack is smooth and mellow. Something a guy like me can drink straight without feeling like I'm forcing poison down my throat. I'd recommend it to someone who wants their alcohol to be palatable & tolerable without loading it down with mixers & flavors. It's decent on its own, great when mixed. I think I've finally found my liquor of choice. As with anything else, price could always be better.

25th November 2020

Taste is like paint cleaner and much overrated

There’s no real nice taste. I smell paint cleaner and has nothing to do with a real whiskey.

14th November 2020

Over sweet, burnt sugar and after shave lotion

This was a first time for me as I think JD is vile stuff and massively over rated. If you like single note grain vodkas or haig clubman you will hate JG.

Can only say it's like drinking a bottle of cheap aftershave lotion mixed with burnt sugar. A truly disgusting drink.

Very disappointing. I so wanted to change my mind about JD products.

8th November 2020

Will not buy ever again!

It tastes like bubble gum and sweet. Now JD is off my list forever. Paid too much price for this softy cola.

22nd October 2020

Surprisingly not bad (as a person that dislikes bourbon)

This is a bourbon for single malt drinkers , as a person who generally dislikes bourbon and JD for that matter I actually saw this at the market the other day and wanted to give it a try ,surprisingly I actually found it to be not that bad . Of course it’ll never be able to compare with glenmorangie which is a completely different taste and feel in the mouth but not bad

31st July 2020

Poor. Don't buy into the marketing

Pish. Tastes of charcoal. No depth of flavour. Give me a good Bourbon any day. Buffalo Trace or Makers Mark bourbon are both cheaper yet more rounded and complex. Woodford is around the same price and although not my favourite is far superior. Why would you bother with this? Beats me. I give it 2 stars as there is actually worse out there, it's called No.7

16th June 2020

Great Versatile whiskey

I like Jack Daniels and I like Scotch Whiskey, but what I like most of all, is simple whiskey that doesn't destroy my mouth with thousands of flavors. Smooth and Steady, with a simple profile, with or without a cigar, for lunch or a cold day/night. As much as I enjoy Jack Daniels No.7, I love Gentleman Jack the most! Its simple, yest really good, giving me some Tennessee, and some Whiskey all in one.

10th June 2020

Versatile whiskey

Wonderful whiskey, mellow, complex. I enjoy it best in a highball to enjoy the complexity of flavours. But wonderful neat, on the rocks or even a Jack and coke. Versatile whiskey for anyone, sure to please.

22nd March 2020

Fits my personality

love this whiskey, it's my favorite one.

18th March 2020

Typical Tennessee trash

Please, for the love of all that is holy - stop comparing this to Bourbon. I know Woodford reserve is far better at the same price, as is four roses and makers mark. Jim beam white label is a step up.
This is Tennessee sipping whiskey, not bourbon. There is a huge difference, like comparing Canadian whiskey and Scotch - it's apples to cow patties.
Jack Daniels isn't a palate choice, it's part of a lifestyle. If you don't have a heart in the trailer park, you don't understand.
We all know that the Bourbons come in a huge range of expression that all build on the basic principles of 51 percent corn, new charred white oak barrels and pure limestone filter spring water. It is a field of greats - a world of good and better. From bottom to top, you will be hard pressed to find a truly "bad" bourbon - Tennessee is a different world.
Gentleman jack is like a ladies of the night, turning tricks in a fur coat. The packaging says premium, but underneath it's still just the same old track marks and two teeth...

4th March 2020

Easy Drinking, but meh overall.

Gentleman Jack is better than your typical Jack, but neither are to my taste. Flavour on this one is quite bland and uninteresting. It's easy drinking for sure, but theres much better at this price point. Woodford Reserve is my go to, and remains so.

9th February 2020

This doesn't even qualify as bourbon. Mind you, I don't drink Jack anyway. I am a bourbon drinker. Neat and only ever neat. It's weak and lacks any complexity at all. In the same price range there are lots of better choices. Larceny, buffalo trace, and four roses single barrel are all far superior sipping whiskeys. Bought a bottle today out of necessity today because the backwoods bottle shop connected to a gas station I was limited to had nothing better. Sorely disappointed. If you drink Jack, go ahead you'll probably like it. If you like good bourbon, don't bother, your fears will prove founded.

25th December 2019

I’m sticking to bourbon!

I’m not a Jack fan, have always been a bourbon drinker. I gave GJ a try based on these reviews and wish I hadn’t. It tastes like Jack with a spoonful of honey and some sugar on top. Glad I tried it in a bar and didn’t buy a bottle.

15th December 2019

Hands down one of the best out there 10/10

Out of all the bourbon I’ve tried GJ is by far the best, it is all I like to drink ever since trying it. I don’t get the negative reviews, completely shocked me. The flavor of GJ is amazing, and it’s so easy to drink that I can easily get a head of myself. I like it it in a proper glass with an ice ball, as a shot or mixed with what ever you like, it has a caramel oak flavor that is perfect while smooth as can be. For those that say it’s bad I can only assume they are more into their professional opinions than than the stuff they drink. Grab a bottle and introduce someone to it, trust me they will thank you, that’s how I found it.

12th December 2019

Really smooth and warming

I hate JD straight-up, but this is my new favourite tipple. I usually go for a mellow single malt so this was a nice surprise. Recommended.

5th December 2019

Very tested

One of the best wishky

24th November 2019

Absolutely delicious

16th November 2019

Very good bourbon!

Didn't know what to expect as I cannot drink normal Jack Daniels strait (how I like a whisky) but I was very surprised at how good this whisky is, easy to drink and nice flavour

16th November 2019

Absolutely Love It

Has become my go to whiskey since discovering it this year. Absolutely love it with an ice cube and some air. Simple, smooth, balanced, delightful.

13th November 2019

No thanks.

Call me "low class", but I'll drink No.7 until the end of days, and single barrel? That's really something special.

But Gentlemen Jack? Just don't like it, everything that makes the others drinkable is gone. Feels like I'm drinking pot pourri. I don't like it.

9th October 2019

Have to say heads above No7

It's certainly much smoother than I expected and relatively simple, enjoyable and balanced. I enjoy it neat or with an ice cube.

8th October 2019

This is a deceiving whiskey. What seems a bit simplistic at first becomes something entirely different with some air and maybe a spot of water. Truly balanced, a bit restrained, but wonderful fruit, caramel and wood if you are patient. At $29 good luck finding this experience anywhere else.

21st September 2019

Really relaxed smooth sipping whiskey

I’ve tried many whiskeys/whiskys and I always come back to gentleman jack as a fail safevif im uncertain what to try next. I’m honestly surprised by some of they negative reviews, perhaps their pallet is more mature than mine, but then some people rate talisker and I’d rather drink tcp than that. Perhaps GJ is missing the peat that some drinkers crave??

13th September 2019

A little better than number 7.

6th September 2019

Window cleaner fluid.

Window cleaner, for what it's worth. Purports to be mellow and smooth. I've never tried the regular Jack Daniels, but I surmise the bar must be quite low because this whisky is neither of those things. There's some underlying character, but why bother when a Woodford Reserve at a similar price is so much better.

31st August 2019

If there was ten stars I would give you guys that

The best whiskey iv ever tasted- a nice mellow taste-- I like to chase it down with a Shock top beer -- a nice fruity taste-- I quit drinking makers mark for this whiskey-- I think Gentleman Jack is a unique whiskey-- I used to make whiskey has a kid growing in the South but this you guys make is outstanding-- keep up the good work.

4th August 2019

Marvellous, smooth bourbon

4th July 2019

A gentleman sipping whiskey

I love the taste on the rocks and neat the aroma is to die for the best JD has to offer very smooth

30th June 2019

Don't listen the haters, they only like TCP whiskey with a diesel finish.
If you like smooth, easy to drink, whiskey it's good choice.

12th June 2019

Don't! Just don't..

Vile. Beyond me how anyone can enjoy this.

2nd June 2019

Not Worth The Money

Bought a small 50 ML bottle and even that was a waste of money.

8th May 2019

Smooth enough alone and great with ginger ale

Smooth enough on it own and great with ginger ale. Great price @ $42 for 1.75l.

10th April 2019

smooth stong and gorgeous

smooth stong and gorgeous

1st April 2019

I’d suggest you drink this with coke (or something similar) as drinking neat is not advised. It’s a very poor dram drank neat.

29th March 2019

Horrible, doesn't even taste like whiskey. Thankfully I only bought a small bottle for the hotel room.

18th March 2019

It’s one of the best

I love the flavor it’s smooth and well done. It doesn’t leave you with that brown liquor headache after drinking a lot of it.

24th February 2019

Bland and boring

The second charcoal filter doesn’t do this juice any favors. It’s incredibly bland, as if that second filtering process stripped the majority of the barrel character from the whiskey. If you want a “smooth” sipper that doesn’t feel like whiskey, this is it; just be warned it doesn’t taste like whiskey, either. It doesn’t taste like anything. There are better and far more flavorful options at this price point.

27th December 2018

Re-review: Is it still awful?

At some time, I wrote a review stating that this was the worst fluid I ever tasted.

Now, since friends and family are not as repulsed as I was, I descided to give it another chance after breathing in the bottle for some time. Others in here also seem to like this so it might just be me.

I done it all; chilled, room temp, with/without ice. Even super cooled in freezer like we danes like to do with schnapps.

My conclusion is this:
In MY world, this is terrible unless used as a mixer. I tried to figure out the secrets of the good reviews, but I have failed. Sorry Jack. You’re on Coke.

1st December 2018

Not sweet, just a bland whiskey. Should be $10.00

Regular Jack is sweeter. This to me tastes like Hennessey. No banana taste other reviews state. No Carmel...going to try Four Roses

16th November 2018

Cracking sipping experience

2nd favourite JD. A paint thinner aroma, with a full, oily, smooth texture. A lot of banana flavour with a hint of the oak barrels it was aged in. A pleasant sipping whiskey, allow it to roll over your tongue and enjoy it!

13th November 2018

Among the Best!

I’d rate it among the best, Smooth, way better than No. 7. My regular go to whiskey.

4th November 2018

Lovely whiskey and a great buy (if it's discounted)

A very clear and beautiful colour Whiskey. Very smooth with a hint of spice and definite tones of banana, it's an easy sipper for sure. I would buy again at discount (I paid £20 for 70cl down from £35), but I'm not sure its worth the non discounted price. At £35 I'd rather pay £23 for an equally smooth Buffalo Trace .

1st November 2018

My new favorite whisky

This is my current favorite whisky. I drink it in a mason jar filled with ice. Very smooth yet still has that classic JD flavor.

30th October 2018

Worthy for any whisky drinker

I love it I think it's a great fairly priced whiskey one of my favorites also regardless of price

22nd October 2018

Number seven tastes better

Either I got three bottles in a row or it tastes bad. It is better to mix it with any pop like Pepsi. I'll stick with jd old number 7 or number 8 George Dickel

15th September 2018

I love it! Smooth & Easy.

I'm relatively new to Whiskey but I've tried quite a few in the last year. -I've been to a couple of tasting parties in the last few months and I have to admit that Gentleman Jack is one of my favorites. I also really like Four Roses Single Barrel, OYO Bourbon Whiskey, and Knob Creek Single Barrel.

GJ is smooth, easy to drink and I really like the flavor. I also appreciate that doesn't pack the 100+ proof of my other favorites. I like a long pour in the evening as an alternative to having a craft IPA beer or two. Very relaxing, taste great and less filling!

6th September 2018

Better than no.7

Just an improvement on no.7, smoother and no vodka type taste on the end. Find it really complex and alive after sipping a dram of dahlwhinnies lovely chilled out roughness beforehand. Got me back into whisky over lager and wine atm as well so would say sound for a casual drink but nothing spectacular, as I say though, excellent casual or "every day" spirit.

13th August 2018

It's local and I love it!

Really having a hard time with the poor reviews. On one hand I'm ok with it if the demand is low the price will be too. However if it's too low and people really take these reviews as the gods honest truth we wouldn't see it on the shelves much longer. I love this whiskey. Its so smooth. I find it best consumed on a hot day. Glass filled with ice and Gentleman poured to the top. Swirl for a second and enjoy.

11th August 2018

Awful fluid - clever mixer

Some have stated that this is an ok sipping dram. I partially bought it for that purpose.
Maybe my palate is not working right, but to me, this is the worst I have ever tasted. I have no words to describe how awful this fluid tastes.

As a mixer it's a completely different animal. The sweetnes and several pleasant aromas rises when this goes into Manhattan, Old Fashioned, Whisky Sour or just Coke. So three stars for it's mixing quality and minus one for the fluid itself makes two stars total.

15th July 2018

Not all who criticize are coneited, wrong or "haters"...

1) I don't have any reasons to hate JD or even Tennessee whiskey (I love Dickel's).
2) I am not a whisky snob - I enjoy both expensive, older scotches and bourbons as well as "some" bottom shelf budget wonders - it's almost a sport for me (when something expensive tastes good, there's no surprise, it better! when something inexpensive is good, that's a find!)
3) I don't smoke, no alcoholics in my family and while not some expert, I feel I have a decent nose and somewhat educated taste.

Having said that (preempting someone's categorizations below) I gave JD an honest try, because I wanted to like it. I bought a sampler of No.7, Gentleman Jack and Single Barrel. Tasted them neat, room temperature, from a Glencairn glass. Found them all to be varying expressions of vanilla flavored superglue. Lower abv than good bourbons yet very harsh and solventy with little flavor or interest. I am 100% certain that these work ok with cola (they are nothing but mixers), but let's not forget that they are not cheap. You can do so much better AND cheaper with Dickel, Ezra Brooks, Evan Williams and a whole bunch of other very decent budget bourbons. Even a few BIB within the price range. JD is clearly a label/brand akin to Johnnie Walker. I never buy Johnnie Walker but I can sip Red Label - it's not disgusting, just boring. Jack Daniels... I'll actually refuse a free dram.

22nd June 2018

Smooth and pleasant, but bland

Easy enough to drink straight. Very smooth, but there isn't much to it. Makes a good mixer. I'm not a fan of the black label (its too sour) but this is ok. Not my first choice but fair enough for what it costs.

16th June 2018

Vanilla rocks :-)

I think it is a classical Jack Daniels except it finishes smoother and with definite vanilla scent. Not citrusy at all

26th May 2018

3rd favorite choice.
Not a fan of original jack. But I love this kind. Mixes good with cola

4th May 2018

Worth to buy

Very nice. If you don't like no7, you should try this one, cause it's a bit smoother and more mellow. Flavour is simple and enjoyable. Even I'm a fan of Glenfiddich, I like this one.

10th March 2018

Pleasantly surprised

Tried a shot on ice for the first time, found it smooth and slightly warming. Flavor is simple and enjoyable. Not as smooth as high end brandy per se, so it takes you back at first until you have allowed yourself to accept it on it's own merits. Easy to allow this one as a new addition to your options list.

21st February 2018

Worth trying. But in this price range, I'd reach for the Four Roses Single Barrel.

8th February 2018

Absolutely atrocious....yuck!!!no7 is much better.

30th January 2018

Peanut butter dream

Unique tastes and smells. Worth a buy.

15th January 2018

Distinctive for 40%, dry, herbal

A pleasant and dry palate set it apart from many of the sweeter American whiskies. While not extremely complex, it’s not as simple as some are painting it to be; it has its charms, it’s very medicinal and a nice sipper. The bitter Amaro notes remind me of an Amaro Braulio.

Colour: Dark golden wheat

Nose: woody, oak, pine needle, smoky, caramelized sugar, very herbal and minty (mouthwash), medicinal, charcoal, sweet.

Palate: Sour, semi-sweet, medicinal, oaky, sage, tart herbs, peppermint, vanilla bean, mineral notes, some faint leather, tobacco smoke, bandages, iodine, burnt popcorn, amaro liqueur, liqourice.

Finish: More sour woody medicinal notes linger on, warming, peppercorn, more amaro liqueur flavors, dry cherry, dry raspberry, faint banana, lots of mint and herbs.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, sloshy, medium body.

Би било чудесно...

2nd December 2017

Good for the price, primarily due to smoothness

Generally thought it was a sort of amateur Jack Daniels for those who refuse to purchase single barrel... it is... if you water it down at all. I say neat is the only way to give this whiskey it’s due. In that way you get all of taste of a no 7 with a delicate smoothness that allows you to taste the smoke oak and honey that really makes this come alive.

19th November 2017

nice try it with just ice

i dont like jack daniels but was bought a bottle of gentleman jack it is so different smooth mellow realy nice try it i think you will like it

10th October 2017

My favorite Whiskey by far

Above all best Jack Daniels available, whenever some place is out of Gentleman Jack they try to substitute single barrel or some other high end Jack and nothing compares

30th September 2017

I can't recommend it.

Since I started drinking whiskey a few years ago I always like trying something new. I'm by no means an expert with a sophisticated pallet but I can tell the difference between well crafted and aged whiskey and lesser quality offerings. I picked up a bottle of Gentleman Jack hoping for a better than average experience. The first sip was sweet with a slight smoky taste and I was pleasantly surprised, until the finish kicked in. The smooth start turned in to a harsh alcohol/chemical taste, completely overwhelmed the sweet start. I keep coming back to see if I was having a bad day but nope, it's pretty harsh. A little ice cuts the burn but also weakens the sweetness. It's probably ok as a mixer but a little pricey for that.

5th September 2017

Just didn't hit the spot!

I'm not a JD guy but I do respect their select 50. I had this bottle sitting for over a year, don't even know what I paid for it so money wasn't a consideration in this review. I didn't even know if this ranked above or below the JD7. So it's just a whiskey and whisky lover with willingness to like a new whiskey.

One the nose, different so I'm excited, a bit mild so I'm wondering am I missing something. Second serving I can smell some fruitiness.

On the palette, inviting at first, smooth, you can taste some extra sweetness from the caramel and the honey. It's not smokey but now I know understand that it was the charcoal filteration that introduces another taste.

After taste is bitter, disappointing, puts you off the charcoal filteration.

Neat was the best, with some water it gets worse. And I never quite enjoyed taking coke as a liquid.

In summary, I tried to like it but it just didn't impress after the second serving. I would likely never buy it again nor advise someone to do so.

9th August 2017

Not worth the money.

For me it's a big disappointment....nothing special to deserve the extra money.

24th June 2017

I was thinking it would be like a good brandy smooth, but this stuff is ROUGH.

24th June 2017

Not worth the extra money

Just bought my first bottle of Gentleman Jack and was anxious to give it a "shot", especially with all the claims of its smoothness, amazing flavor, and double mellowing sophistication. So far I've sipped, shot, and even the cardinal sin of mixing a "premium" hooch in coke, all side by side with old #7, and heaven help me, I can't tell the difference with the lone exception of the price tag. Don't get me wrong, it's good. I love Jack. Old #7 and I go way back. However, I don't see the point in paying almost double for, in my opinion, no difference.

12th June 2017

be your own reviewer, don't listen to "experts"

As I read some of these reviews, I realize that most of the negative reviews truly have to be from people that fit into 1 of 3 categories: 1) Those who hate Jack Daniels just because it's Jack Daniels. 2) This who are absolute whiskey snobs, if it's not a 15 year old aged single malt its gonna be crap. 3) someone who smokes 3 packs a day and suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome, taste buds are shot and they the wittiest thing they can come up with in their review is that this is either rubbish, or paint thinner etc...
Now that I have that out of the way, all I can say is that I do like this whiskey, I find it to have just enough flavour to make me want to drink this neat, although my first try was on the rocks, at the end of my drink the water washed out too much of the honey flavor I enjoyed in the beginning. It's not a complex whiskey it's just smooth and easy to drink, I think that's what has upset most of the reviewers that have given this a 1 star review, they have been so indoctrinated to believe that every whiskey out there needs to have a dozen hidden flavors and they believe they are the only ones who can determine what they are, so they drink GJ and find that there are only about 3 or 4 dominate flavors within and they call it junk because it didn't make them look like a genius whilst drinking and reviewing it. I personally like it, I also would never compare it to my Glengoyne 21 year old and maybe slightly below say a Famous Grouse,(which can be had cheaper than GJ) but it's still worth the drink on a warm night neat with a nice cigar. Bottom line, just like wine, drink what you like, not what "experts" tell you what to like!

11th June 2017

Just above average.

It's OK. That's about it. Better than the muck that is regular JD. (No. 7?) But the problem is the price tag. You pay an extra 8 or 9 GB pounds for the JD name. That brings it down a mark. Overall nice with some ice, non complex, would go well at a BBQ where nobody knows anything about whisky. I don't agree with mixers and spirit so can't comment on that.

2nd June 2017

Not worth the money at all. Very bland, disappointing.

16th May 2017

Super no words

Super no words

3rd May 2017

Marginally better than the No. 7, but that's a low bar. Quite smooth, but pretty boring. There are better things out there for the money.

22nd March 2017

Really great flavor. On ice a a few sips from a flask it is truly a mans drink. One shot before bedtime finishes a hard day of work for every businessman.

9th March 2017

Don't Bother

Sewage. I've had a pint bottle in the cabinet for the better part of a decade and once in a blue moon I try it again just to see if I was wrong before. I never come back with a changed opinion. Save yourself the cash if you're not already a fan, but if you like it, different strokes for different folks.

Note that I gave a 2 star rating because there are whiskeys I like less, but at this price tag it truly deserves even lower.

18th February 2017

The aroma calms the senses the flavour lingers on tempting you to pour another

Just tried my first glass neat and wow strong though I've just recently acquired a taste for Jack Daniels range. I then tried it with coke and I have to say the aroma is calming and the flavour lingers well after the glass is empty. I'm so glad my wife bought it for me as a birthday gift. Hearty recommend it

15th February 2017

Its the finest and mouth watering flavour

Great taste

2nd January 2017

Blair Montgomery

This is a good whiskey. Some of the reviews here seem a bit odd. This is a premium whiskey and needs to be drunk and evaluated like a single malt (or what's the point?). My local whisky is Glenkinchie, an easy drinking lowland malt. GJ has the easy going smoothness of a lowland malt with something of the flavour palate of an island malt. It's like how a soft, mellow island malt would be, if such a thing existed. This is a whiskey America should be proud of.

PS. Also gets you drunk, nice...

25th December 2016

24th December 2016

Pretty Good Hooch

I'm a fan of the charcoal taste, so this is some good sippin' whiskey.

1st December 2016

Great long drink

Really enjoyed this drink with ginger ale, angasturas, lemon and ice

18th September 2016

Easy drinking

Excellent, best cheap american whiskey. I generally only drink scotch whisky but sometimes need to switch it up. This is a great sweet easy drinking whiskey. if you want something drier go with woodford reserve, if you want sharper, go blantons, but easy, go with gentleman jack.

17th September 2016

One of the best

28th August 2016

Horrible aftertaste

Was expecting much better

17th July 2016

Was really hoping for something nice.. but it smells like the paint thinners we have at work.. really puts me off. It is very smooth, but really, paint thinners

17th June 2016

Wish I read the reviews before I wrote mine. It really is lousy. They should not be selling it, and I love JD.

21st May 2016

Bitter aftertaste. Give me good old JD on the rocks!

21st May 2016

Dont bother

22nd April 2016

Not terrible but not far off unfortunately. Had a few bourbons recently that put this to shame - Beam Devils cut, Bulleit etc. This tasted slightly bland, very alcoholy with a rough/bitter aftertaste.

15th April 2016

Basically water

Had a bottle for a ceremony today. General concensus was that gentleman jack has no flavor or kick.

13th April 2016

Drink or pour the sink?

I received a bottle of this as a present and only looked up how much it costs because I'm thinking of pouring the rest down the sink. I am a big whiskey fan, I know this is a bourbon but I have still had some I enjoyed however I find this simply repulsive. My wife has even tried mixing it with every mixer in the house but still can't make that sickly aftertaste go away. The good comments below sound more like an advertisement than someone who actually bought this and the bad comments confirm what I thought in the first place. I'm going to tip the rest down the sink.

29th March 2016

Utter crap

Even worse than No.7 and I didn't think that was possible!! Paint thinner would have been a better drink choice. Anyone scoring this highly has literally no idea about Tennessee Whiskey. Absolute dogs***

14th March 2016

I've drank too much good whiskey to drink this. I'm mad at myself for buying it. I'm a neat freak, but I'll have to break my rule and choke it down with Mexian Coke. I did enjoy the honey rasin notesw though.

8th March 2016

Paint Thinner.

Smells like glue or paint thinner and taste like bubblegum-infused vodka.
Sorry Jack...

When I drink whiskey--and maybe I mean Rye or a spicy Bourbon--the last thing that I look for is a healthy dose of banana that not only hits my nose, but buries my taste buds. Granted, the banana flavor/nose ultimately ebbs into a bit of spice/pepper finish, but the banana kind of morphs into a gummy resin kind of flavor, which is not to my liking.

Its eh.

I drink scotch and whiskey on the rocks...this one is very childish. It's super sweet and tastes like bubblegum with some fruit mixed in. I'd say it's good for beginners/children/man-children but it's way overpriced. Makers Mark, Jameson, JW Black, and even Bulleit is...more manly. I'd compare this to one of those syruppy Samuel Adams beers, like the cherry wheat. Anyone saying it's anything more than what I said is a noob; I'm especially talking about the "Best of the BestSour Mash Whiskey" guy. He must work for them.

Best of the BestSour Mash Whiskey

An outstanding taste which is mild enough to be served neat but also is strong enough to be a good mixer for ladies. The smell is satisfying to the nose and pleasant to the palate. A Smooth drinking and satisfying mixture of only the best grains and Tennessee limestone water and aged in Charcoal barrels of white oak which dates back over 100 years and twice filtered through a charcoal bed. An outstanding whisky which can be enjoyed by everyone.

22nd February 2016

I've just recently started drinking whiskey in general, this is the 4th brand I've tried between this, woodford reserve, Bulleit Bourbon, and Knob Creek, this is definitely the worst one. Still pretty drinkable on the rocks and whatnot, Pretty strong charcoal taste for me, and pretty corny in flavor.

9th February 2016

Just plain bland

Quite bland an rough when neat, even after adding water this hugely benefits from having a lid placed over the glass and left for 10 minutes before coming back to it. The whole thing is very restrained and in the back. Subtle flavours: Vanilla, Molasses (possibly), maybe aniseed, very light spice, slightly floral I think, a bit gummy. Then, after sitting for a good twenty minutes whilst covered with a lid, a more obvious and pleasent smell of sour cherry sweeties is their, like the very sour ones that make your mouth tighten up. But even that fades a way relatively quickly revealing a corny smell (I am doubting there was much rye in this), a very grainy whiskey. On the tongue their is a very faint roughness, but the spirit is generally very smooth (in a bad way though, it lacks flavour). There is a clear charcoal taste. Note: I am tasting this from a miniature, this could be the problem. Overall it is a very challenging nose but in my opinion, not incredibly rewarding. I'd say your money is better spent on a bottle of buffalo trace, it's less expensive and more pleasant.

Definitely One To Keep For The Liquor Cabinet

I consider myself a novice when it comes to tasting different spirits. Wine, Brandy, Gin and Vodka etc, are not my fortee. However I'm growing my knowledge on tasting Whiskey's and Scotches.

I've never been a fan of Jack Daniels. I'd class JD in with Walker's Red Label; just bad.
I unintentionally picked up this Whiskey without realizing it was JD until I walked out.

This particular Whiskey was extremely easy to pick apart flavours. Calling it "complex" would be justified.
My standard cheap-whiskey's are Jameson, Tullamore Dew, Jim Bean and the like. In Canada, this 750ml bottle was about $38 if my memory serves me correct; slightly higher than the ones mentioned.

I use a Brandy Snifter for the full experience when tasting. And unlike the regular JD; which I could I would dump a bunch of ice and Coke, I'd suit Gentleman Jack to a Brandy Snifter without hesitation. Most Whiskey's will offer a description of notes with "Honey, Dried Fruit, Sherry and Oak. However, those terms seem far too common and lack-luster.

BUT with Gentleman Jack, I INSTANTLY noticed (for the first time) Honey and Dried Fruit. It was quite incredible, in my opinion. The complexity and easily identifiable notes tasted were something only found in Tullamore Dew or expensive Single Malts. It reminded me of Aberfeldy Single Malt, but with more sweetness and body.

To make it short, Honey, Smoke and Dried Fruit (mainly Apricot) were easily recognizable even by an amateur taster such as myself. I feel the double charcoal filtering was a definite asset by for this Whiskey, as it defines the flavours' clarity much more, and smoothed the edges so to speak.

Adding water does WONDERS for this as well, as on the pallet there is a smooth, oily finish but on the swallow itself, there are harsh pins and needle. If you smoke (and if you're a real man, you do, ;)), you will understand this; there are some cigarettes that are smooth but lack complete flavour. But there are some that come with a certain prickly harshness, but provide an intensity of smooth, enjoyable smoke. THAT is what Gentleman Jack is.

I gave Gentleman a very strong 3 and a half simply because the flavour is well-balanced and strong, and provides a full body, living up to the price and reputation of regular JD. I deducted half a star due to having the prickly-effect (which wouldn't be so bad if they didn't promise a different swallow as regular JD) however it was expected from Jack Daniels anyway.

Never drank whiskey before, cannot taste anything. All it does is burn my tongue.

13th January 2016

Good whiskey

I am no expert at this but i like this whiskey better than Jameson and Wild Turkey. Regular JD i only like with Coke but not this. It's pretty mild and a single ice cube opens it up. It's no crazy fancy drink and i definitely taste the barrel it was in as well as a mild sweetness. Maybe more seasoned drinkers wouldn't like it but i think it's easy to sip. Its very very smooth....

5th January 2016

I have drank all three..
No.7 --Gentleman Jack and Silver Select (Silver Select is not easy to find)
I just love my JD...
I am diabetic so I am also confident about my sugar.... 😀

26th December 2015

good times

Very smooth bourbon. Great with the cigar.

19th December 2015

Not for me

Smooth yes, but just not for me. The premium price didn't put me off, to me it's just not a premium whiskey. At first taste, the thought that came to mind was of an old fashioned mouthwash. I'll stick to aged blends or single malts.

27th September 2015

I have got some whisky experience but gentleman Jack doesn't satisfy me at at all. At first it tastes like water and after that there is too much sweetness. Buy a good single malt whisky for the same money, like for example an abelour 10y

A Very Good Introductory Whiskey

Clearly Gentleman Jack can't be described as a complex whiskey, but I think it is very tasty and mellow and is almost perfect for introducing someone to whiskey.

30th July 2015

MP Molaole

i was first introduce to GJ by a stranger in a liquor store - wh osaid to me "you want a good whiskey, try Gentleman Jack, i came to buy my regular JD. ever since i drink only GJ, it is smooth, dignified, it makes feel like a king.

My favourite drink

22nd May 2015

Good great wow

13th May 2015

Imagine enjoying a day with your daughter, taking her to nearby parks and enjoying a nice swing. You go home to the Ol" Lady and waiting on the table is a nice home cooked steak along with a baked potato. The night was almost perfect. But Wait! Your wife now pours you a glass of Gentleman Jack, and you take a sip. Watch the sunset as you enjoy the last of your glass. You say to yourself, "Now damn, That's some good Whiskey".

6th March 2015

Gentleman Jack

To me, Gentleman Jack is the reason to put a rocking chair on the front porch.

18th February 2015

long standing favorite.

I fir tasted Gentleman Jack served neat about 4 years ago and have never looked back. For me it's the perfect drink.

4th January 2015

The price is just right for me.

I like Jack Daniels. I then saw the Gentleman Jack. Enjoyed the Gentleman even more so.
Back to the store tomorrow.

20th December 2014

Nice for the price.

If your looking for a smooth whisky for the price, it can't be beat. That being said I'm far from an expert. I just enjoyed it.

11th December 2014

Huge fan of top shelf whiskeys.. This is one even the first timers would enjoy due to how smooth it is!

27th November 2014

Taste buds

The people writing negative reviews I'm sure have no taste buds. Gentlemen Jack has such a moreish taste. I love it. The double filtering makes a difference to the initial hit, it creeps in after a few seconds and that warmth appears pleasantly. I rate it higher than makers mark & buffalo trace.

8th November 2014

For JD lovers only

I must admit I'm not a Jack Daniels fan but aa a whiskey lover I decided to give it a try. I I I was first charmed by the sweet and wooden scent but was greatly disapointed by the (absence of) taste. Frankly this is nothing but an expensive rot gut for drinks. Better off with Crown Royal or Buffalo Trace, just to name a few, in this price range.

2nd November 2014

Not a fan !

To be perfectly honest this is vulgar !. Reading some reviews below more so the review from @Rubbish this person was been kind with his review but I do disagree with the part he/she says about smoking. I don't smoke because I've got asthma but my old man does and he has been on many of whisky trails with me and he has hit every tasting note I did even more he actually can detect the same as some of the malt masters and did so before the Malt masters could utter a word. Jack Daniels is very deceptive once you smell its sweet aroma you would expect the taste to have been sweet as its the sugars you can smell but once it's been through your mouth leaving a trail of limitless bitterness you are let down big time by its vulgar undertones of tannins reminiscent of red wine. I had a bottle of Old no7 and its best used as windscreen washer fluid as you get that sweet smell every time you wash your windscreen with it and at least you won't get any vulgar surprises this way. Stay away from this stuff buy a good single malt and try some whisky from the people who invented it !.

25th October 2014

Worth a 2nd look

I am a fan of original number 7 and drink it straight as well use for mixing drinks. Gentleman Jack however, I only drink neat. It would be shameful to mix ice or cola with this beauty.

12th October 2014

It makes a perfect product better.

When I want to spend a bit more that I do for Old.7 GJ is perfect. Well rounded, smooth with just the right bite.

2nd September 2014

JD hits the right spots.

Switched from Scotch single malts to bourbon a few years back Gentleman Jack and Tenessee Honey both do it for me. GJ is the perfect 'drink it neat' sipping whiskey and TH is a great bourbon for drinking neat, over ice or with a mixer over ice to make a long cooling drink.

27th June 2014

This smells lovely (better than No 7 even) but the taste is just a wall of burnt wood and shoe leather marinated in Old Spice. I dig some folks (smokers presumably) need or want epic in your face stuff like this to drink but the rest of us should probably just pick up a bottle Beam White Label for half the price (literally) and enjoy 2 fingers on the rocks. Its so much nicer. To describe this as complex would be laughable, but compared to even Beam's cheapest bottling, which is in itself not very complex, Gentleman Jack is hugely disappointing. Now to be kind: I found GJ was actually more enjoyable than some cheaper blended malts like Grant's and Chivas 12. But given the price that's hardly a win. 2 stars from me. Don't buy this. Buy a decent Bourbon, there are dozens in this price range!

25th June 2014

I love coke and wanted something to mix with it. After several failed attempts of trying Jagger, Kesslers, crown, and regular Jack. ...I decided to give gentleman a try and the results.! ! Makes for a terrific smooth drink :)

31st March 2014

Georgia boy

nothing like gentleman jack. I agree it's smoother than black label. I also drink some scotch offerings but I have to say this is a pleasure to drink and reminds me of home in the Southern United States. Highly recommended for someone starting to explore whiskey.

11th March 2014

Gentleman Jack

Had a taste of this bourbon a few months back with some friends on a night out and decided to get a bottle.

When I tasted the first glass of my new bottle it tasted very different than the one I tasted the first time, It was less sweet, the caramel seemed almost absent, and it felt much stronger in alcohol%.

Left it it open a few times and after a while it changed completely, very much like the first time I tasted it.

Very enjoyable

26th February 2014

Much better neat

This is a bit weak for my taste - tried the first few on ice. Finally went neat with it and the experience is much better.

15th January 2014

A surprise from Jack D

This really is great to sip. Super smooth and well worth the money. I am a regular $150-$200 Scotch drinker but this is an easy, cheap & cheerful drink. Much better value than the Single Barrel and worth the extra $$ over the black label.

21st August 2013

Quite remarkable, very smooth and distinct flavour due to the double charcoal mellow process.
My favorite American whiskey by far. Also love the bottle, but thats secondary ;)

Love GJ, neatly drunk!
Seriously though. Great to have neat, very smooth.
Gentleman Jack is my drink of choice!
I'm Australian and I love gentleman Jack!
There I said it. GJ all the way

Simply delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed drinking this.

14th August 2012

One of the most delicious drinks I have ever had the pleasure to experience. I don't consider myself an expert on these things but there is a definite banana thing going on here, especially on the nose. As always in my opinion, drink straight.

19th July 2012

larry brown

i hve at my house a bell bottle that is 1972yrs black jack

7th July 2012

I have not developed the palate of tis site's official reviewer but this is an easy whiskey to appreciate. Obvious vanilla and maple syrup make it my preferred "dessert."

15th May 2012

Big B

True sipping whiskey has a beautiful smooth finish don't judge it by the cheap Jack Daniels offerings this is worth the extra expense.
