    Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey

Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey has been made at its Lynchburg distillery since 1875. The branding and original label, sometimes referred to as No. 7 or Black Label; has made its way into pop culture, with merchandise sold the world over and a history of association with music. Frank Sinatra was even buried with a bottle. The Tennessee whiskey makers use a mash bill made up of 80% corn, 12% rye, and 8% malt to create Jack Daniels whiskey, which is then filtered through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal to produce a mellow, slightly smoky character. A method known as the Lincoln County Process, it means this is not a bourbon, but instead meets the legal definition of a Tennessee whiskey. Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel ( c. January 1849 – October 9, 1911) was an American distiller and businessman, best known as the founder of the Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey distillery.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Light with plenty of sweetness. There are hints of dry spice and oily nuts, a touch of smoke.

    Palate

Quite smooth and soft with notes of banana milkshake, a mixed nut note, a touch of caramel with crème anglaise.

    Finish

Sweet with a little cereal sweetness and toasty oak.

    Absolutey disgusting.

I would accept it if you just want to get hammered and this is the only thing you’ve got. But if we are to rate this as a drink, taking the scent and taste into account - to say that this is “acceptable” or even “great”, is an insult to things acceptable and great. Read a comment here that said that you’re a snob if you “hate on it”. Listen... if I served you water that tasted and smelled like piss, and you criticized it, would that also make you a snob? No. It means you have a standard. If you want great liquor, try Longmorn (16 years) Jameson Black Barrel (great and affordable!) for the cowboys out there, try Bhunnahabhain Glenn Fiddich (15 year old) Chivas Regal Gold (18 year old) For Christ’s sake people! At least TRY any of the above. Who knows, maybe you’ll appreciate a break from Jack’s sewer juice.

    Good bang for the buck

Dont make assumptions. Do a blind comparison. This is a good whiskey. Ignore the haters.

Make up your own mind on it

Probably the most divisive whiskey in the world. You’ll either fall in love with it’s distinctly apple-y and oaky taste or you’ll barely even consider it a whiskey. Its still a trendy and pretty “sexy” drink with amazing marketing blurb which gives it an enduring appeal with youngsters, but I personally feel I’ve outgrown its gimmick.

    Great for me

One of my favorites for 20+ years. Tastes great on the rocks. After getting into the single malts journey I recently thought of trying JD plain in order to compare. Not disappointed. Very decent taste and much better than quite many blended scotch. Smoky, good body, medium aftertaste, great value for money.

    Great stuff

Just used several bottles to strip all of the gloss paint from my doorframes in the new renovation. Excellent stuff and cheaper than ronseal too!
