    Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey

Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey has been made at its Lynchburg distillery since 1875. The branding and original label, sometimes referred to as No. 7 or Black Label; has made its way into pop culture, with merchandise sold the world over and a history of association with music. Frank Sinatra was even buried with a bottle. The Tennessee whiskey makers use a mash bill made up of 80% corn, 12% rye, and 8% malt to create Jack Daniels whiskey, which is then filtered through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal to produce a mellow, slightly smoky character. A method known as the Lincoln County Process, it means this is not a bourbon, but instead meets the legal definition of a Tennessee whiskey. Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel ( c. January 1849 – October 9, 1911) was an American distiller and businessman, best known as the founder of the Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey distillery.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Light with plenty of sweetness. There are hints of dry spice and oily nuts, a touch of smoke.

    Palate

Quite smooth and soft with notes of banana milkshake, a mixed nut note, a touch of caramel with crème anglaise.

    Finish

Sweet with a little cereal sweetness and toasty oak.

    Decent enough

..but I'll never understand why my friends swear by it. I admit that it has a unique characteristic in its taste that I always try to cling to and explore... but it never seems to go anywhere. And other than that.. nothing else to see here.

    Overrated

It taste cheap and no character at all. JD+coke = CHEAP! Why buy like this and drink it with coke?

    Mixing?????

I have never been much for "Red Liquor", and despise bourbon cheap or spendy. If you have to mix it to get it down, let it be. I drink Gentleman jack exclusively as far as American sour mash is concerned, and a few "Whiskeys" from across the pond. I drink it neat so I can enjoy the taste. Why else drink the stuff? Jack Black is fine for clubs ans Jack and Coke searching for the "Buzz", but it tastes to my admittedly uneducated palate like battery acid and monkey urine. Spend a few dollars for Gentleman Jack and leave the dang Coke in the fridge.

    Maybe good for your car

I've worked in an Ethanol plant for 8 years. Every once in a while you get a really strong wiff of the alcohol off the Mol Sieve room where the alcohol is refined. I must say that Jack Daniels smells exactly like fuel grade alcohol and the taste matches it's smell. I agree with the poster who said this is one for the nightclubs. It's got kind of a sour corn and vinegar like taste....combined with fuel grade alcohol. I didn't like it.
