J&B Rare has long been a go-to for whisky fans across the globe, particularly in Europe.
Following the end of Prohibition in the USA, J&B Rare was created by Justerini & Brooks to appeal to the American palate, hitting shelves in 1933. The blend itself is made with a combination of 42 Scotch single malts and grains, with a generous portion of Speyside whisky at the expression's core.
J&B Rare is perfect for those who enjoy a classic whisky taste with a modern twist. This smooth Scotch is great on the rocks or neat, and it's also versatile enough to be used in cocktails.
J&B Rare whisky is an affordable option that delivers on taste and quality, so it's no wonder that it's one of the most popular Scotches on the market. If you're looking for a go-to whisky that won't break the bank, J&B Rare is a great choice.
A medium-bodied nose with hints of walnut, toffee apples, cedar wood, orange zest and malt.
Balanced and rounded nose - lots of fruit here, with a little toffee and malt.
Medium finish with oak and cinnamon.

When I'm at a bar I always opt for a low-ranked blend and soda. I just don't need to spend $12 for a shot of the good stuff. J&B is not great, and certainly not drinkable neat. But I admit I do like it mixed with soda. It's an odd combination of flavors for a scotch but it's interesting as a cocktail. I'd buy a bottle of Teachers any day over J&B. But if you see it behind the bar it'll do in a pinch.
This might easily be one of the worst whiskeys on planet earth. I understand it is a scotch whiskey, but I would much rather drink jim beam over this garbage. The flavor profile reminds me of wintergreen chew spit and the nose is quite smokey. Doing waste your money and if you must have a scotch i would go with the glenlivet 12 year as it is affordable. Don't ruin your scotch experience with this.
Of the light, zero-peat blends, this is to my palate the finest --- sweet, refined, balanced with real character and some depth but little complexity from malt and zero from peat. Some spice and more than some citrus, as others note. The cereal grain component is thankfully very low for this kind of blend. Poor man's versions of this, and not as refined or sweet, would be Cutty and to a lesser extent, say, Ballantine's. It is the full opposite of blends like the markedly peaty JW Red, White Horse, and Teacher's.
Light drinking whisky, little watery, seems to be a hole in the tasting experience. I'm more of an Islay drinker though so I expect a lot of flavour in my whisky. Great for sharing with a newbie. definitely better smoother than a red or black Walker.
This is one of the finest with amazing taste and soothes your senses right after first sip.
