Isle Of Skye 8 Year Old (Ian Macleod)

This eight-year-old blend from Ian Macleod has been dubbed Isle of Skye, with the blend based around malt whisky from the Islands and Speyside. Particularly that famous whisky distillery on the Isle of Skye! The blend is very well regarded among whisky critics, making it something of a bargain!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Quite smoky on the nose, with crème anglaise, digestive biscuits, and hints of cocoa powder.

    Palate

Sweet and creamy with gooey sticky toffee pudding, gingerbread, fruitcake, and sherried spices among a little more smoke and sea.

    Finish

Nutty and spicy, with almond oil and black pepper.

    Just really, really good

Drinking Isle of Skye in the final hours of 2020 - and as an Englishman I personally and sincerely apologise for all that colonizing the world business, it won't happen again - and it's a nice, smooth drink, with just the right amount of briny, maritime nose to be accessible for a beginner, without being overwhelmed by nautical notes like taking a hosing in the face from the fountain of Poseidon himself, or being mugged by a pirate in the rain. Has a firm, dense, savoury taste that lingers on the palate maybe thirty or forty seconds, in my estimation, leaving some mildly spicy, peppery aftertaste. I give it 3.5 rather than 4, as upon reflection, if you're a whisky drinker and in particular a fan of peats then it's probably not going to quite blow you away, but I definitely recommend it as a solid, dependable, uncomplicated dram for casual socializing, for introducing others to more robust smoky or peaty whiskies, and for weaning one's friends off of the sweet stuff when it comes to spirits. And at the low price of below £20, it's a real bargain.

    Excellent value

First time tried this as usually only drink peaty malts. Nice surprise as really smooth and nice amount of peat. Will buy again.

    Amazing

After drinking Isle of Skye, India to UK- We forgive you for colonizing us but don’t try you dare try colonizing on anyone ever again. Isle of Skye- Extremely smooth and sweet, exemplifies that alcohol doesn’t have to taste bad

    Excellent

I live in Qatar and here it goes for approximately £32. Still it is a bargain for its price. One of the smoothest whiskies I have ever had. 10/10

    Just enough smoke for me

Sweet, dense, fairly simple, and just enough phenolic Islay character for me.
