    Jura The Road

One of a series of five releases from Isle of Jura for the Travel Retail market. The Road is firstly matured in American oak casks, and is then moved over to casks that previously held 20 year old Pedro Ximénez sherry. Unlikely to have been named after the Cormac McCarthy book.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Spiced rum with a hint of pineapple, slightly grassy at points, dense malt loaf.

    Palate

Gingerbread, milk chocolate and hints of sultana.

    Finish

Lasting cinnamon warmth and a touch of oily walnut.

    Really very nice indeed

My first Jura, other than the basic 10 for a while. This, though, is worth a try. I was lucky enough to have the Turas Mara some years ago (which many seem to feel was one of the best Jura produced) and this dram isn't far off being just as good. I would like it to be ncf and natural colour but, hey, we can't everything perfect, can we. I'm tempted now to try 'The Sound'.

    Tasteful value

Nose: Sharp orange peels, dark berries, brown sugar, light earthiness and a trip in the forest in the Autumn, peat. Palate: Caramel, sultana, gingerbread. Finish: Lasting cinnamon and pepper, oily but also dry nuts. I like it... Reminds me of the Jura Turas-Mara, the best Jura whisky I've ever tried.

    Nostalgia for the old range

This is a really nice single malt. And now, my rant... The Origins 10yo was a light, refreshing, spritely piece of joy. Then, there was the Elixir 12yo, which was rich, bold and fruity. The Superstition had that light peatiness, which formed a painters palate, against which all the sweet notes could contrast. That smokiness deepened and became so much more rich, in the Diurach's Own 16yo, and finally, for the big peat fans, their was the iodine rich, seaweed and salt, of the Prophecy. ...and then they binned all that and released two ranges that seem identical, to me. It's all good... ...but I mourn the variety of the old range. Ian

A great scotch although not available in the US

One of my favorite Scotch whiskys. It has a complex yet smooth taste that is rare.
