Islay Storm
Single Malt
An Islay single malt from a secret distillery, Islay Storm has loads of peaty character.
Peat smoke, oily, briny, some malt.
Sweet rush initially, then onto medicinal peat and seaweed, some bourbon notes, spices, custard.
Smoke, long and spiced.
can the cask add value in time or did the initial spirit miss the Islay secret for complexity
This has all the characteristics of an Islay. Some of the other reviewers suggest otherwise. Those reviewers must not drink Islay's. Yes, this is young (5-6 years) but for the price it is very acceptable. This scotch has a place in my cabinet.
Really trows you of in your expectance of a islay malt button i think it's a good balanced whisky good peat notes and a fruity woodsy pallet
An independent bottling from an undivulged distillery; speculation is that it's a 5-6 year old Lagavulin. Smells and tastes like a campfire, oily mouthfeel, nautical notes abound, some slight nuttiness at the end. The aftertaste lasts for hours, sadly. Got this for $20 at Trader Joe's because I wanted to try an Islay without spending a fortune. Drinkable, intriguing and smooth, but I'm more a fan of Highland and Speyside malts.
Price considered and still has that special !!! good "body" and "aftertaste"... perfect for the porch in the summerevening after a great barbecue with red wine !
