The first bottling of Inish Turk Beg, a lovely single malt made at the Cooley distillery. After distillation, the whiskey was taken to the island of Inish Turk Beg off the coast of Ireland. The island itself (whose name translates from Gaelic as "the small island of the wild boar") has a long history of illicit distillation, particularly of Poitin, so it is fitting that Inish Turk Beg whiskey is actually finished in Poitin casks! The whiskey was reduced to bottling strength using rainwater collected on the island, and there are just 2,888 of these distinctive leaning bottles!
Peaches and cream on the nose, with hints of apricot, barley malt, black pepper, toffee apples and butterscotch.
Creamy and very fruity with notes of caramel and Manuka honey. Hints of pepper, nectarines in syrup, orange and buttery toffee.
Spicy and oaky. Long finish, very fruity.
If Poitin is a non-aged spirit/white whisky/new spirit where do the casks come from? Surely it would be like something being aged in Vodka casks? Or have I missed something?
