You can still get Imperial today, even though nobody takes "credit" for it anymore - it's just Imperial. You'll find it on the same (bottom) shelf as Philadelphia and Fleischmann's. It's also available at Home Depot in the same aisle as the weed killer. If you go into the rattiest bar in the rattiest neighborhood of the rattiest city in America (Otto's on South Ave. in Syracuse springs to mind) and order a well whiskey drink you'll get Imperial. But only if the owner was broke that month and he couldn't afford Barton's. During the 70s when whiskey tastes weren't as sophisticated as today, I was celebrating a big win at the track by tossing down Imperial at the World Famous Golden Banana north of Boston. Four days later I came to in a George Washington Motor Lodge outside of Wilmington,Delaware. My 2nd wife was in bed with me. I said, "What are you doing here?!?" She said, "Don't you remember? We got married again yesterday." Need I say more?
