It's a Peated expression from the Hinch Distillery! Based in the Killaney Estate, it takes its name from the nearby town of Ballynahinch. The triple distilled whisky is packed full of chilli spice and savoury smokiness.
Caramelised oak, woody cinnamon and honey-roasted ham, with a crack of rock salt all backed up by a wave of peat smoke.
Smoked nuts and barbecued meats, charred herbs and fresh fruit sweetness, with building chilli spice.
Charred chilli pepper and bonfire smoke.
Has a potein smell to it, not Laphroiag. Not very good but too expensive to ditch, will either share it out or kill it with Red Bull
I enjoyed this - definitely peaty earthy on the nose but then the fresh bright sweet smooth palate takes over and doesn’t linger - not like a typical Scottish peaty malt but similar to Torabhaig but the Hinch is less layered and at 43% far to easy to drink ?
For me Hinch doesn't have a signature, some which I can taste and recognise as a Hinch whiskey. This peated addition seems more like a marketing tactic to cover more market share rather than an attempt to produce a good product. The base spirit is too young and simple, if offers none of the complexities associated with peated Islay's for example. Plainly, its not a good whiskey.
I'm by no means an expert and have only Sampled a couple of dozens whiskeys but I couldn't finish this. Tasted of germolene to me. I cannot believe how bad this was.
Weak peaty gin. Not terrible but not very peaty and more botanical than anything else.
