A great introduction to Highland Park's famed heathery peat smoke, the 12 Year Old is matured predominantly in sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, so it's spicy, citrusy, and full of smoky aromatics. This is part of the Orcadian distillery's impressive core range, which was treated to a smart new look in 2024.
Fresh, clean and very aromatic. Floral notes abound the senses with a light grassiness. Notes of creamy Manuka honey and a touch of juicy citrus with cream and a well-balanced sweetness.
Rather full with a pleasant depth. Lurking somewhere in the substratum a grilled orange lies. Notes of granary toast and green tea with jasmine. A touch of sweetness.
Quite long with peppery spice and wood shavings.

Not too smoky, but with enough richness of flavour to be well set off by a drop of water. I used to be a speyside man,.and typically put off by overly strong peat and smoke flavours, but lately forays with whiskeys like this have helped me appreciate the complexity of flavour. It won't be the finest whisky in the world but its definitely a cut above most. Really enjoyable, and not so expensive you feel guilty splashing out a good measure whilst watching a favourite film.
I have always been a peaty type of guy, but this has totally changed my taste buds. Smooth and mellow, whether over ice or on its own. I cried when I finished the bottle.
Cheap and nasty - sells for around £25 in the supermarkets, and I still would not buy another bottle. Sweetish, slight smoke, cardboard, new make spirit - ultra short finish. You get what you pay for.... but don't imagine you are getting a 'proper' 12 y/o malt. For the same cash, a bottle of JW black is a much better whisky. Or Teachers.
My Daughter bought me bottle for my Birthday would highly recommend. Lovely tasting one to note 5 star rating will buy again
A very good and smooth tasting whisky. Very easy to drink.
